Madeleine McCann: Clarence Mitchell For Hire, Richard Desmond And The Guardian Repeats
MADDIE WATCH - Anorak’s at-a-glance guide to press coverage of Madeleine McCann
DAILY TELEGRAPH: “McCann’s spokesman Clarence Mitchell ponders PR move
As Kate and Gerry McCann return from their first family holiday since their daughter Madeleine disappeared 14 months ago, their spokesman Clarence Mitchell is in talks to join a PR agency where he plans to help other parents who have lost children to deal with the media.
Such is the news of the McCann case that the internet traffic-hungry Telegraph is looking at Clarence Mitchell’s career options. An interviwer might ask him what good has come of all the PR and media handling, and point out that not every missing child is the the blonde, photgenic progency of middle-class doctors and thus not deemed to be as newsworthy.
Says Mitchell, the McCanns’ spokesman:
“I’m happy to help anyone in the eye of a media storm, but I need to put myself on a firm financial footing. I should stress, however, that there’s absolutely no question of me abandoning Kate and Gerry McCann.”
Working for the McCanns is a job, and it pays. But when will it end?
THE GUARDIAN: “Fakery fallout hits TV sector”
Deception rows caused several top television figures to slide down the top 100. It’s the MediaGuardian 100, an arbitrary league table of TV shows and staff.
The newspaper sector accounts for three of the top 10 fallers - two editors and a proprietor. Richard Desmond is the second biggest faller, down 20 places to 55, after his newspapers had to make unprecedented front-page apologies and pay £550,000 in damages to the family of Madeleine McCann.
And the Guardian loves to write about Desmond:
55. Richard Desmond
In March, Richard Desmond’s Express Newspapers titles ran unprecedented apologies and paid £550,000 in damages over stories they had run about the family of Madeleine McCann….
It was another blow to the credibility of the papers, credibility that has suffered ever since Desmond bought them in 2000…
Under-resourced and undermined by the McCann apology, Desmond’s newspaper group also saw the first 24-hour national newspaper strike for 18 years in a dispute about pay and outsourcing.
Desmond is Fleet Street’s least-loved proprietor, but as the Observer’s Peter Preston memorably put it: “No one likes him, though (in common with Millwall FC) he doesn’t seem to care.”
No.78 is Peter Wright, editor of the Mail on Sunday.
If Wright is occasionally a controversial figure, then he gained extra credibility this year when he joined the Press Complaints Commission after the Daily Express editor, Peter Hill, stepped down in the wake of Express Newspapers’ £550,000 damages payout to the family of Madeleine McCann.
James Murdoch takes the top spot from his father as other City players suffer a tough year
Richard Desmond, the owner of Express Newspapers, has also had a mixed year, paying out £550,000 in damages to Gerry and Kate McCann for a string of inaccurate articles about their daughter Madeleine’s disappearance, and taking the unprecedented step of publishing front-page apologies in all four Express and Star national titles.
Is the Guardian obsessed with Richard Desmond?

That’s so sad. I feel guilty I was dismissive about it the last time you mentioned it to me but I was annoyed about something else. I hope it gets better. x

Ciara! Definitely go on youtube tonight. EFT is only a tapping technique but it truly is all the rage and you will find people adore it. X

I wasn’t on for a week or more Cheryl as my son was in hospital. He has received treatment and is not too good with the side effects. The last scan revealed more abnormalities at the front cortex of the brain as well as the growth in the middle. His memory is the main problem as he gets confused and can’t remember basic things like if he’s eaten or not. It is hard to cope with and accept at times.
__________
Oh, Ciara, I am so so sorry! Do you have other family to help you out and/or just be there for you and him? I’m five hours behind you and I’d be happy to sit with you so to speak and you just talk, cry, rant, rave, or whatever if it would help you any inside to get your feelings out, you must be bottling up.

Thanks Coco I will look into that tomorrow. I will try anything to lift me even temporarily from this situation. It is wearing me down and it is hard. I am trying to be positive and keep going for the sake of my other two children but I am worn out and tired. It is a horrible illness and watching every symptom gradually develop destroys me. He is only 17. Thanks for your concern…x

June, I gather your husband got hurt. Will he be bedridden or carefully up and around? You mentioned ‘phiso’ is that physical therapy? Do they come to your home or will you have to drive him for it? Oh well, June, what else do you really do to keep you busy? You only have to walk the dogs, you board dogs, you only have to feed them, clean up after them, make sure they get exercise, be a mod on here, clean the house, fix breakfast, lunch and dinner, take care of your husband now … oh hell just order 3 cases of Merlot and you should get through it like a charm!

Ciara! ….. John Grinder and Richard Bandler. Anything by them. They do fab the most uplifting sessions. I have used their techniques many times. X
July 15th, 2008 at 1:16 am
Ciara …… Just read the note about your son. Please try and get hold of an NLP book by Grindler and Bandler(/) or any NLP book because it really can help you. I think it’s called ‘Frogs into Princes’ if you go on Amazon. If I remember the names properly I will re-type. Somebody may have nocked a copy and put on the internet.
Try any NLP books to help yourself and him. XXXX

Speaking about ghosts, I’m curious.
I was brought up with the idea they don’t exist.
It is difficult for me to combine Darwin’s theory and the existence of dead people coming back from death.
Althoug I know a very reliable person who have seen ghosts, a person who was brought up without religion.
It is absolutely not somebody who makes up stories, never did.
This intrigues me.
I would like to hear more about this, from people on this forum.

Can spirits who are ‘at peace’ come back?
…………………………………………….
Further to this, I have just e-mailed Christine to see what she says and will let you know.
_______
Ann, have you heard or believe the spirits come back when someone is dying and helps them pass over? A person is at the end and someone who has died before them, say a mother, father, brother, spouse, etc. is standing there waiting for them and they see them waiting ?

Otherwise,he is a “nice” bloke really…as long as I shut up,we”re “friends”
Anyhow,he keeps his shirt at all times WITH a bloody tie in the freaking heat
I will gently make him understand he could do without the tie but swiftly. He must think thats HIS idea NOT mine.Freaking childish as well
_________
Good grief, Jo, it looks mighty incriminating to me - hairy chest, …tanned not pinkish….BUT yet he wears a shirt and tie? Could you explain to me how you can see his hairy tanned not pinkish chest?
Don’t worry, Jo, over here in divorce court one can plead the 5th! But that is right you aren’t in this country. What about in your country?

Richard Desmond apparently quite genuinely doesn’t give a shit, which presumably accounts for the Guardian’s obsession with him.
It must put the fear of God into PR people too…
