Madeleine McCann: Clarence Mitchell For Hire, Richard Desmond And The Guardian Repeats
MADDIE WATCH - Anorak’s at-a-glance guide to press coverage of Madeleine McCann
DAILY TELEGRAPH: “McCann’s spokesman Clarence Mitchell ponders PR move
As Kate and Gerry McCann return from their first family holiday since their daughter Madeleine disappeared 14 months ago, their spokesman Clarence Mitchell is in talks to join a PR agency where he plans to help other parents who have lost children to deal with the media.
Such is the news of the McCann case that the internet traffic-hungry Telegraph is looking at Clarence Mitchell’s career options. An interviwer might ask him what good has come of all the PR and media handling, and point out that not every missing child is the the blonde, photgenic progency of middle-class doctors and thus not deemed to be as newsworthy.
Says Mitchell, the McCanns’ spokesman:
“I’m happy to help anyone in the eye of a media storm, but I need to put myself on a firm financial footing. I should stress, however, that there’s absolutely no question of me abandoning Kate and Gerry McCann.”
Working for the McCanns is a job, and it pays. But when will it end?
THE GUARDIAN: “Fakery fallout hits TV sector”
Deception rows caused several top television figures to slide down the top 100. It’s the MediaGuardian 100, an arbitrary league table of TV shows and staff.
The newspaper sector accounts for three of the top 10 fallers - two editors and a proprietor. Richard Desmond is the second biggest faller, down 20 places to 55, after his newspapers had to make unprecedented front-page apologies and pay £550,000 in damages to the family of Madeleine McCann.
And the Guardian loves to write about Desmond:
55. Richard Desmond
In March, Richard Desmond’s Express Newspapers titles ran unprecedented apologies and paid £550,000 in damages over stories they had run about the family of Madeleine McCann….
It was another blow to the credibility of the papers, credibility that has suffered ever since Desmond bought them in 2000…
Under-resourced and undermined by the McCann apology, Desmond’s newspaper group also saw the first 24-hour national newspaper strike for 18 years in a dispute about pay and outsourcing.
Desmond is Fleet Street’s least-loved proprietor, but as the Observer’s Peter Preston memorably put it: “No one likes him, though (in common with Millwall FC) he doesn’t seem to care.”
No.78 is Peter Wright, editor of the Mail on Sunday.
If Wright is occasionally a controversial figure, then he gained extra credibility this year when he joined the Press Complaints Commission after the Daily Express editor, Peter Hill, stepped down in the wake of Express Newspapers’ £550,000 damages payout to the family of Madeleine McCann.
James Murdoch takes the top spot from his father as other City players suffer a tough year
Richard Desmond, the owner of Express Newspapers, has also had a mixed year, paying out £550,000 in damages to Gerry and Kate McCann for a string of inaccurate articles about their daughter Madeleine’s disappearance, and taking the unprecedented step of publishing front-page apologies in all four Express and Star national titles.
Is the Guardian obsessed with Richard Desmond?

It was reported that 15000 contacts by Psychics were received.
10% of which were reputedly forwarded to the Police.
I’d crease up if they were the 81 items of information the Police gave the Mccanns hahahahahahaha

What they said on the BBC is totally correct, and in some places people on opposite sides of the streets get treated differently. Actually Its not where you live but where your GP surgery is that decides which ‘Trust’ you fall into.
It is the Primary Health care trusts (Control Dentists, GP’s, community hospitals, community nurses, Health visitors etc) who decide whether they will refer you for treatment and how often, and not necessarily the hospital themselves (or the Acute Care Trusts)
However the Hospitals make their own decisions about treatment in some instances. You’ve probably read about cancer patients who want drugs which are not available on the NHS (usually cost reasons but sometimes effectiveness) when they pay for these drugs some hospitals are insisting that they then have to pay for the WHOLE of their treatment.
The budgeting system of the NHS is a complete shambles IMO, and we waste millions each year because of the way its organised.
For example a local policy has just been introduced in our area, the Primary Health Care trusts that cover the county (not the city) will only pay for 7 days in an acute hospital for patients who have a stroke, they are then expected to be moved to the community hospitals (which are good) but if they are not medically stable and can not be moved then the hospital had to fund the patients extended stay… obviousley the pressure is on to discharge them.
Its a total farce, and some patients are predictably bouncing back to the hospital when they deteriorate. The hospital doesn’t mind this as they are then funded for another 7 days… but the cost in terms of anxiety, patients welbeing, relatives stress levels, ambulance tranfers addiional paperwork etc etc etc is huge. IMO
Sorry you got me on a roll… I could go on
if you’re interested in the NHS setup (which everyone SHOULD be) and how your money is wasted on admin… this site explains the system…

The banner-lady is still there. There’s 3 of them today (must be the rest of the pro-life group). It’s annoying because Gregg’s is across the road and I want to buy a Danish.
But still, I leave at 12. (pm)

Good Morning all and many thanks to those who wished me a happy birthday. It is certainly going that way so far.
For those not aware, today is St Swithin’s Day If it rain’s today, it is supposed to then
rain for 40 days and nights. I hope this is just on the McCanns.
Yesterday’s comments went in various directions but the supernatural ones gave me
cause to ponder.
Usually when a child goes missing, all sorts of psychics turn up either giving input or offering their services to locate missing child. Unless I missed it, this does not seem to
have been case for Madeleine .
Any opinions on this area ?
