Which Newspaper Will Buy Robert Murat’s Story?
MADELEINE McCann aguido Robert Murat has accepted £600,000 in libel damages over claims that he was involved in her abduction.
Outside court Mr Murat says: “The newspapers in this case brought about the total and utter destruction of mine and my family’s life and caused immense distress.”
Round up here.
Mr Murat, his friend Michaela Walczuch and IT consultant Sergey Malinka had all brought proceedings against Associated Newspapers, Express Newspapers, MGN Limited and News Group Newspapers over nearly 100 “seriously defamatory” articles.
Murat’s solicitor, Louis Charalambous, says:
“In particular, the defendants accept that none of the claimants had any involvement whatever in the abduction of Madeleine McCann.
“They accept that none of the claimants has any paedophile tendencies or connection with paedophiles or paedophile websites and that none of them lied to the police or obstructed the investigations.
“They accept that Mr Murat’s actions after the abduction were entirely proper and were motivated by a desire to help find Madeleine McCann. He became a volunteer translator for the Portuguese police and did everything he could to assist the investigation.
“Ms Walczuch was never suspected or accused of any involvement in the abduction of Madeleine McCann. Mr Malinka was not guilty of any sexual misconduct and has no criminal convictions.”
Now which paper will buy the rights to his story and try to earn back some of their losses?

Karen, re 217, if they’d been engulfed by fire the door being locked would then be a hazzard.
yes but if the parents are there they can unlock it.

Or - to maybe put it a little more precisely on my part - don’t believe the children were left alone while the door was unlocked … ["no valuables were taken", so they seem to have left those valuables].

I see maria and Chenier have been renewing their vows of friendship once more!
As i see it, the funny side of these settlements is that Murat can enjoy spending his gains-Wheras, the world and his wife will comment on every penny the Mccanns spend-Be it changing their car or even buying a posh brand of loo paper.

I better tell the local primary to take those gates down.
It’s not up to them to protect the kids - it’s up to the perv not to be in the playground.
Why don’t we just get rid of doors altogether - put the onus on those pesky burglars for a change.

Karen, re 176, sorry I missed it. You could call it a plan. but assuming it was an opportunist did he have to do what he did? Was he entitled to do what he did? If he was embarked in this course would a holiday apartment lock be a deterrent?
No not a deterrent - a precautionary safe measure that would probably ensure that soemthing wouldn’t happen.
Do you lock your doors at night?

But seriously - you don’t think a parent needs to lock a door at night when their children are all alone??? [...]

PeterMac [and a "couple" of people with him, including me] thinks the door WAS LOCKED!

Karen, re 216, the difference being that sun doesn’t know any better

A bit of sunscreen.

You’d be fine with that???

I don’t know why you’ve got such a thing about this.
At the very least they should’ve locked the bleedin’ door.
If a parent takes their kid out in the sun and they get burnt - then it’s the sun that burnt them - but a bit sunscreen would be a sensible precaution.

I don’t know what Murat expects if he’s going to wander about in public with a foreign surname, a dodgy eye, a Polish girl-pal, a Russian computer acquaintance, AND live with his mother.
He may as well open a motel and call himself Norman.

Well, following the settlement this morning he should be able to buy quite a few shower curtains…

Thanks, Matt.
I found the Norfolk accent rather endearing; the Eastern Daily Press will be having kittens.
I would imagine that there is a large family party going on right now…

MODS AND ADMIN

Maybe the psychologist used a treatment making the story concreet, and the existence of the monster was necessary.
It will help the children to make a difference between a human being and a monster.
When they go out and don’t see any monster, they will remain confident that everything is ok for them.
If they would have told them that it was an unknown man, it would be terrible for them every day.
