Which Newspaper Will Buy Robert Murat’s Story?
MADELEINE McCann aguido Robert Murat has accepted £600,000 in libel damages over claims that he was involved in her abduction.
Outside court Mr Murat says: “The newspapers in this case brought about the total and utter destruction of mine and my family’s life and caused immense distress.”
Round up here.
Mr Murat, his friend Michaela Walczuch and IT consultant Sergey Malinka had all brought proceedings against Associated Newspapers, Express Newspapers, MGN Limited and News Group Newspapers over nearly 100 “seriously defamatory” articles.
Murat’s solicitor, Louis Charalambous, says:
“In particular, the defendants accept that none of the claimants had any involvement whatever in the abduction of Madeleine McCann.
“They accept that none of the claimants has any paedophile tendencies or connection with paedophiles or paedophile websites and that none of them lied to the police or obstructed the investigations.
“They accept that Mr Murat’s actions after the abduction were entirely proper and were motivated by a desire to help find Madeleine McCann. He became a volunteer translator for the Portuguese police and did everything he could to assist the investigation.
“Ms Walczuch was never suspected or accused of any involvement in the abduction of Madeleine McCann. Mr Malinka was not guilty of any sexual misconduct and has no criminal convictions.”
Now which paper will buy the rights to his story and try to earn back some of their losses?

Forgot to mention that included in the libel settlement this morning was the book ‘Madeleine’ published by Express Newspapers…

I’m not on the office computer, thank God. They get checked by some organisation (don’t know which one) - and that would get reported. I’d have to say it was research.

It seems that in the files of the investigations, they say that there was also scent of cadaver on one window of the living room and on the ground(garden) under that window. I still did not see a photo of that side of the apartment. It looks small and deserted.Ideal for a body to be left there and to be picked up later by somebody.
Are there photos of that left part of the apartment?

About books
“……..Also the former PJ inspector Paulo Pereira Cristóvão, author of the books “Star of Joana” [Estrela de Joana] and “Maddie’s Star” [Estrela de Maddie] states that “the professional secrecy is only violated when the official reveals specific techniques of the investigation, which deserve the whole reserve”. Besides, “in the case of a retired investigator, if proved and substantiated, the violation of the secrecy is punished by a financial fine”.

Ha, so we’re not even allowed to look at labour saving devices in the modern office aren’t we-call me old-fashioned but that’s hardly a family friendly approach to take is it……..no wonder women aren’t returning to work.

Julie (if still around?)
I didn’t take Karen’s advice about making paper-clip daisy chains. House is full of’em already.
However, I DID decide to look back through some press archives. I never did keep links properly.
If you want to laugh, cry, scream or roll around in disbelief, just try googling The People. Then do a search on Portuguese Police, (or almost anything at all, probably!)
Absolutely UNBELIEVABLE!! Why are they not behind bars? I hope the PJ sue them.
Anyone who could trust any reports from that paper is seriously in need of medical help!
I hope The People won’t sue me for libel, taking advice from chenier on their defence!
I’ll take my chance.
Much more entertaining even than paper-clip daisy chains. Sorry Karen!
Going to do some more archive-digging now.

232-Ah, so when they said they could see the appartment from the Tapas bar, what they meant was they would be able to see smoke and flames from appartment should a fire break out and propmptly run in and rescue the children!!!
Not so irresponsible after all.

Karen, re 217, if they’d been engulfed by fire the door being locked would then be a hazzard.
***
We’re back on old grounds. One excuse was indeed to leave the doors open in case of fire. However,Kate herself has stated also that Madeleine [at her age and size] would NOT have been able to open these [unlocked] doors. She also claimed that MM couldn’t/wouldn’t have wandered off. Most interesting changes in statements were made in the early days …

If they were engulfed by fire - I’d wonder why there weren’t any adults in the apartment to A. use a fire extinguisher B. Call the fire brigade C. get the kids out the building.
Of course that’s another reason why we should abolish doors.

I see maria and Chenier have been renewing their vows of friendship once more!
As i see it, the funny side of these settlements is that Murat can enjoy spending his gains-Wheras, the world and his wife will comment on every penny the Mccanns spend-Be it changing their car or even buying a posh brand of loo paper.
That’s because they’ve put themselves in the spotlight. Murat never - he was forced into it.
