Which Newspaper Will Buy Robert Murat’s Story?
MADELEINE McCann aguido Robert Murat has accepted £600,000 in libel damages over claims that he was involved in her abduction.
Outside court Mr Murat says: “The newspapers in this case brought about the total and utter destruction of mine and my family’s life and caused immense distress.”
Round up here.
Mr Murat, his friend Michaela Walczuch and IT consultant Sergey Malinka had all brought proceedings against Associated Newspapers, Express Newspapers, MGN Limited and News Group Newspapers over nearly 100 “seriously defamatory” articles.
Murat’s solicitor, Louis Charalambous, says:
“In particular, the defendants accept that none of the claimants had any involvement whatever in the abduction of Madeleine McCann.
“They accept that none of the claimants has any paedophile tendencies or connection with paedophiles or paedophile websites and that none of them lied to the police or obstructed the investigations.
“They accept that Mr Murat’s actions after the abduction were entirely proper and were motivated by a desire to help find Madeleine McCann. He became a volunteer translator for the Portuguese police and did everything he could to assist the investigation.
“Ms Walczuch was never suspected or accused of any involvement in the abduction of Madeleine McCann. Mr Malinka was not guilty of any sexual misconduct and has no criminal convictions.”
Now which paper will buy the rights to his story and try to earn back some of their losses?

Not within the remit of the fund.
Please don’t forget how much a consultant cardiologist earns. BUCKETS!
And they stayed with an aunt, didn’t they?

Chenier, I object strongly to the comments you made against me this morning, far from being dishonest, Anorak printed the very point I was making a little while ago. I would hazard that in all probability a civil court would take the view that 9 are more likely to be correct than 1.

………worrying situation for the Mcs, I should think, wouldn’t you?
I expect you feel that that Madeleine will get SOME justice ,at least, if they are charged with “only” neglect (abandonment?) but not actually with killing her?

They did get in trouble for using the fund to pay their mortgage… so… that horse has already bolted.

wonder who paid for their recent FAMILY HOLIDAY?!?!?!

I hope on Monday Fernando Pinto Monteiro is gonna tell us what happened to Maddie, otherwise it will like borrowing a book from a library and reading through to the last chapter only to find some rotter has torn out the final three pages.

I guess we assume Doctor’s aren’t thick enough to leave their door unlocked. But we were wrong.

“I had to admit…but from all i have read about Maddie…..i still believe the Mccanns know more about what happen!!”
you may be right.
I am not sure what is meant by “solution”. It may be a bad translation or mean something different in portugese to english. Afterall even in english it means different things.
I suspect that it will be a short statement of fact that will means no charges and no further investigation unless some new evidence ever comes to light.
But who knows?

I see maria and Chenier have been renewing their vows of friendship once more!
As i see it, the funny side of these settlements is that Murat can enjoy spending his gains-Wheras, the world and his wife will comment on every penny the Mccanns spend-Be it changing their car or even buying a posh brand of loo paper.
————————————————————
The payments were not made to the Mcs but to the Find Madeleine Fund. The Directors of the Fund have to meet to agree the spending of every penny….yes, even those two mortgage payments back last summer (wrong, in my view, although not illegal) which allowed them to stay on a bit longer in Portugal. GM wished to come back (or so it was reported…who knows?) while KM did not yet feel able to leave the place where she had last seen Madeleine. It was reported that they’d spent their savings on the villa they’d rented since May, at least since the one MW allowed them to use was needed again.
The money can’t be used for their legal fees; that decision was taken by the directors many months ago. Again, it wouldn’t be illegal, according to the legal advice the directors sought, but it would not be “in the spirit” of the Fund. Difficult to see how a posher car would contribute to the search for Madeleine.
Unless, of course, anyone thinks the Mcs would be sufficiently batty to add misuse of the Find Madeleine Fund to the list of possible accusations against them, even if they wanted to……… Whatever the technicalities of that fund, I shouldn’t think they’d want to do that. Aren’t they in enough bother already with possible charges about to be brought of abandonment, drugging of their children, killing their little girl, covering up her death, disposing of her body, wasting enormous amounts of police time, obtaining money by fraudulent means, attempting to divert attention from their crimes by lending their support to some of Europe’s leading child-rescue campaigns, attempting to pervert the course of justice by witness-tampering, etc. etc. etc. I suspect that might be enough to be going on with. Being tainted in the public’s eye with the accusation of misusing the fund might be just a bit too much.

Pinto Monteiro told reporters on the sidelines of an official ceremony Wednesday that “the ‘Maddie Case’ will have a solution on Monday, and you will be informed of it.” He did not elaborate.
Here we go again? A solution? We were already told once that they had info and arrests were to be made in the near future. We were told they had TONS of evidence on the parents.(the cell phones and texts and emails) That was ages ago and nothing happen!
I had to admit…but from all i have read about Maddie…..i still believe the Mccanns know more about what happen!!

Madeleine McCann charge decision imminent
Attorney-general to say whether there will be charges over girl’s disappearance
LISBON, Portugal (AP) — Portugal’s attorney-general says he will announce next week whether he plans to bring charges in the disappearance of British child Madeleine McCann.
Attorney-General Fernando Pinto Monteiro could also order the case closed or request that police continue investigating the girl’s May 2007 disappearance in Portugal’s southern Algarve region.
Pinto Monteiro told reporters on the sidelines of an official ceremony Wednesday that “the ‘Maddie Case’ will have a solution on Monday, and you will be informed of it.” He did not elaborate.
Prosecutors have been reviewing the final investigation report on the girl’s disappearance, just days before her 4th birthday. The attorney-general said he would make his decision early next week based on their recommendations
Decision charge imminent….how do you read this?

I wish sometimes we would leave the fact they are doctors out of it. It kind of implies that they know better so if you’re not a doctor it might be ok cos you don’t know better.

while reading the news today i came across this…..
Sheriffs in Orange County, Fla., were searching for a 2-year-old girl who hasn’t been seen in more than a month, but who wasn’t reported missing until Tuesday.
Authorities said they were notified Tuesday by Caylee Anthony’s grandparents.
Her mother, Casey Anthony, told investigators she dropped off Caylee with a friend on June 9 but later lost contact with the friend.
It’s not clear why she didn’t report the child missing.
What is wrong with parents? She dropped her off in June and has no clue where she is now? Hopefully lil Caylee is still alive!!

I agree with you of course…..the mccanns are very very stupid people:they are doctors aint they?
Soon we all will know…meanwhile the only thing we can do is wait.
I mean we have been waiting for over a year so a few more days do not make any difference.
The only thing I really wish is that justice is made to the little wee girl..and I hope it will happen

The PJ KNOWS
It is now in the hands of the jugdes. It is now up to them to make justice to Madeleine if they are not getting ingulfed in political pressure which seems to be the case ….
Sad but true. The case may be “shelved” but not closed which makes a big difference. As long as the body is not found and the case is shelved, they will remain arguidos. So will Murat unfortunately it would seem
Too sad,too sad…but still better wait to monday before drawing conclusions.
The Evora court ruling ,charges for neglect, still stands doesnt it?

What parent leaves small children alone in a different country while they have a good time? This was suppose to be a “family holiday” when did they actually spend time with the children?…according to the news the children went to that camp during the day(while mom and dad played tennis and walked?) it also mentioned the children sometimes ate dinner with the staff and then they were left alone at night while mom and dad were out celebrating? Wht part of that says “family” holiday? I read today that they recently went on another “family” Holiday, I wonder if they did things differently this time around!!
July 17th, 2008 at 5:37 pm
I can leave now.
I’m meeting friends for dinner - so might be back on (sloshed) sometime in the early hours.
Bye everyone
I hope Brandon is ok. x

I can’t see them being charged either - which is good if they’re innocent - but I wish the PJs did know what happened.

No.
The McCanns might mumble something about press irresponsibility - but I think that’s as far as they could go.
