Michael Savage On Autism And Brats
SAYS Michael Savage:
“My comments about autism were meant to boldly awaken parents and children to the medical community’s attempt to label too many children or adults as ‘autistic,’. Many children are being victimized by being diagnosed with an ‘illness,’ which may not exist in all cases.”
“There is no definitive medical diagnosis for autism, none. It’s all subjective. There is no autism epidemic. Autism in its true form is a tragedy for the child and his parents. Let the truly autistic be treated. Let the falsely diagnosed be free.”
His comments are intended to clarify his views that autistic children are “brats” who hadn’t been told “to cut the act out.”

There is a difinative diagnosis- who ever said there is not is stupid - ever met someone with Autism? I live with one of them and believe me it is real. You pleople who agree with Savage deserve to be treated the same- with small minded judgement and no knowledge to back it up.

If Savage really understood how autism affects a family, how it is diagnosed, and how people get assistance, he would have never made his comments. His words just illuminate his own ignorance.
I can understand how someone might wrongly be labeled ADD/ADHD. Sometimes that has to do with psychological factors such as a poor fit between the child and his school environment. Changing teachers or schools can help. Sometimes the ADD/ADHD symptoms are actually caused by “allergic” reactions to things in the environment or diet such as chemical fumes or food additives. The American Academy of Pediatrics finally acknowledged that there is a link between hyperactivity and what kids eat. This is something so many parents already knew/suspected but doctors would not believe.
There’s a great book out by Dr. Kenneth Bock called Healing the New Childhood Epidemics: Autism, ADHD, Asthma and Allergies.
Notice that the title includes ADHD, asthma, and allergies along with autism. All of these are actually linked together because they have similar root causes: genetic predisposition triggered by environmental insults such as our poor diet and an overload of toxins.
Ever notice that more kids these days have asthma and allergies too? Check it out. Open your eyes. Our kids really are sicker today than they were in the past. And it’s not because of poor upbringing or the medical community mislabeling our kids. This is real.

Savage is actually saying that people whose children who are badly behaved and out of control are NOT necessarily autistic, just the product of bad parenting.
He is not condemning parents whose children are genuinely autistic, just idle gits who won’t bring their brats up properly

WOW! As a parent of an autistic child, and another one with asthma I can reasonably conclude that you are BY FAR, the Biggest Idiot in a job that reaches millions of people!! How dare you impose such fallacies about the epidemic of autism among our children these days! You must not have many friends, since almost everyone knows someone with an autistic family member these days, and wouldn’t dare say such slanders of the disorder!
I’m offended that apparently my sleepless nights for both of my children have no weight on you for being neccessary! Yeah, who cares if by daughters wheezing is so loud that I sit up all night comtemplating when her inhaler just isn’t enough, and I need to take her to the ER. The fact that when her asthma hits her so fast she can’t even say, “Mommy, I need my medicine” in less than three breaths. But that doesn’t matter to you.. she is just faking it! I’m just curious, since you seem to be so confident on your knowledge about childrens behavior, does an eleven month old infant have the brain capasity to fake having trouble breathing?? Cause that was how old she was when we brought her to the ER for the first time! And what about my son! Since you know so much, why don’t you stop by and talk some sense into him!! I’m sure that is all he needs! The fact that he didnt make eye contact as an infant, didn’t start making babbling noises until recently (he just turned 3 yrs old in March), clearly did not understand verbal commands or retain an alternative method of communicating like sign language, would stare off in space for any length of time sometimes laughing for no reason known to us- all of these things are just him being a brat, RIGHT!
I’ll be sure to tell my husband to have a talk with him, and to call him an idiot in the process! Yeah, that is how loving parents deal with “brattish behavior”defined by Michael Savage.
All I have to say is maybe you should pick up a book to read on the subject before you make such an a$$ of yourself again! And because you pissed me off from talking about a very sensitive subject matter for me, I hope the statements you made come back to bite you in the a$$ someday!!

Michael Savage’s comments are disrespectful and ignorant, to say the least. My nine year old son, who has high functioning autism, is not a brat, but because of narrow minded, ignorant, hurtful comments like this, the public might not ever understand just what it is like to have a loved one who has this heartbreaking disorder. Do you know what it’s like to have to leave a restaurant, a movie, a mall, because your child is over-stimulated, extremely anxious, and about to have a melt down? Do you know what it’s like to have your child cry, and not be able to communicate to you what is wrong? Do you know what it’s like to have a child who can read 3 years above his grade level, and play the guitar, but cannot have a conversation with his mother, father, or brother? I sincerely hope that Michael Savage realizes how wrong his comments were, and hope he has learned his lesson. Also, I hope he gets fired. Yes, I do hope that in America, you can lose your job for voicing your opinion, if your opinion is ignorant and hurtful.

It is sad that we give attention to Savage, but his outrageous claims are so mean and wrong. 99% of autistic kids are not brats. Kids and parents do not chose to be autistic. Savage is not an expert and obviously has no experience with our kids. Autism is not over diagnosed. It is an epidemic. Savage should sit in on some California screening sessions while 7 to 9 professionals evaluate and diagnosis 7 new cases of autism everday. Savage should spend a week with a family dealing with their 7 year old who can’t communicate, can’t stand lights or sounds. We did not chose to let the medical establishment tell us what we could see was happening to our child. Savage, please shut up.

A friend’s child does have Aspergers, a very debilitating condition, and yet he is well brought up, and a constant reminder of boundaries set by his parents seem to be a good example.
But a lot of spoilt brats are just that
