Instead, the McCanns seem set on revenge. Revenge against the Portuguese police who launched the biggest missing child investigation in its history. Revenge against the former head of the investigation, Goncalo Amaral, over his book about Madeleine, even though he has already been sacked, discredited and disgraced.
But if they win in court the parents have more money to pay the private detectives to look for their daughter
So why not?
And revenge against the media - yes, the same media that with the help of hired PRs they used ruthlessly, relentlessly and understandably to try to keep their daughter’s face in the public eye. How sad.
They used the media? Indeed. Not that the media used them to sell papers and to show how much they cared. Tsk! As if. Platell gets things in perspective in her column on the, er, McCanns. Sad:
Their PR Clarence Mitchell insists: ‘The only thing they care about now is finding Madeleine.’ So surely this is the time to go up a gear in that quest and not allow themselves to become bogged down in lengthy compensation cases. How does that help to find Madeleine?
It might get them some money; the lawyers will work pro bono; it keeps their daughter in the news; it gives hacks something to write about… You want more reasons, Amanda?
It wasn’t just their precious daughter that was missing at Monday’s press conference, but also any reference to their own behaviour on that dreadful night when they went out wining and dining and left their beloved children untended in an unlocked holiday flat.

I am not sure that is the correct spelling, and I don’t think that poster is Meercat, but she indicated she knew someone closely involved to this affair and asked for advice, and she was never heard from again. (To my recollection)

I think I may be embarrassed.
Perhaps it was a state holiday, not a national holiday.
Maybe it was my school holiday!
But the memory is so clear.
I did a little search but couldn’t verify.
Maybe it was wishful thinking?

I do not think that any new evidence will come to light, that can be used to successfully charge anyone who has so far been associated with this case. There is, of course the possibility that somthing new will eventually be revealed - but I think that all evidence in the files would have be scrutinised to the enth degree, so if there was not enough to convict anyone - of anything, then I would gamble that it will not happen. What happened to Tony and his justice campaign? it wasn’t really Blair not Bennett was it??

So do I - but I dont think it will happen - they and all of their advisors have become so well versed during the past 17 months - on every single issue which may arise, I recon their backs will be covered. It is a cruel world we live in, and what makes it even worse is the likes of the McCanns (all too often we have been told they are “doctors”) are the most self protecting, self opinionated assholes on this planet. Whether or not they were directly involved in Madeleine’s disappearance - they sure as hell were enablers, and not once have I heard them actually say that they were to blame for leaving the kids alone. I watched some of the Youtube videos of interviews with them - their whole attitude throughout this long saga has been to verbally attack anyone who DARES to question their judgment that night - they have come out with every excuse and senario under the sun - but never once have said that they were absolutely catagorically to blame for the situation that they are now in. I am so pleased that I do not live anywhere near them - I am, in my opinion of course, one of the most accommodating people, who feels that each to their own, get on with your life and leave me to mine - BUT - if I EVER came face to face with either of them, I really do think that my reputation would fly out of the window

verit…….. We didnt need Amaral’s book - everyone has speculated - even the pj who are still employed have speculated - but the bottom line is that the Mcs were released from being suspects without ANY charges. 12 months ago, I think that we would have all staked our lives on SOME charges being brought against them - the abandonment, neglect, apparent lies about times etc. but nothing! In my opinion, there will be all sorts of sorting out - but it will only be “sorting out” how much more money both the McCanns and Murat can squeeze out of anybody and anything. I think I will send them my wet towel after I swim - maybe they can wring something out of that too!!

Annie1, seems to me there is a lots of new information. Perhaps not leading anywhere, but Amaral’s book certainly confirms some speculations and rules out some others. There is more to come. And the possibility of Murat going forward with his lawsuit . . . . we will know more day by day. Maybe never a conviction, but a slow tricking of vital fluids.

Chenier - hello, well of course - the natural progression when so many folk have for months and months conversed and discussed the Madeleine issue - some, it seems from looking through the posts have been on here all hours of the day and night that god sends. It is obvious that over the time they build up relationships, and just because McCann is a stale loaf now, and really deep down, although we all pretend that it will be different - we know that the last 7 days have marked the end of any real speculation. We can all go over old ground and even try to dig new holes, but it seems to me that we have dug to the granite seam, and very little more will come of this case. I may be wrong, and maybe hanging on to a “thread” like these keeps the anticipation alive for some. I understand why discussions no longer really relate to Madeleine McCann - it is because Madeleine McCann, as far as real news is concerned, is history.

I thought it appropriate, given the nature of the reply I received. While I haven’t posted here regularly for many months, I have dropped by from time to time and noticed on each and every occasion a McCann thread, hence my original comment.
The comment made to me was immoderate and snarky - IMO of course.
