Did Steve Fossett Fake His Own Death?
ANYONE seen Steve Fossett? Tall-ish. Old-ish. Attached to a balloon-ish:
Lieutenant Colonel Cynthia Ryan of the US Civil Air Patrol has said Fossett, whose body or plane was never found, could still be alive.
She said: “I’ve been doing this search and rescue for 14 years. Fossett should have been found.
“It’s not like we didn’t have our eyes open. We found six other planes while we were looking for him. We’re pretty good at what we do.”
Steve Fossett is working a children’s entertainer and balloon bender in Milton Keyens…

I flew with an air force search and rescue unit, spending many hours looking for downed aircraft. On one search we were looking for an aircraft that was basically the same as the one Fosset was flying. After three weeks of intensive searching we didn’t find anything. Three years later the wreck was found about one mile from a main highway. The guy had crashed and burned. When discovered the wreckage was about the size of a standard fridge, the wooden/fabric wings having burned completely, as had everything but the aluminim tubing of the fuselage…and, of course, the body which was now nothing but a small pile of bones..
The lady Lieutenant Colonel may know something about searching but it is not as easy or as certain as she suggests.
All you need to do is look away, or blink your eyes at the wrong moment and the discovery is missed. People get tired after staring at the passing scenery for a couple of hours. The area where Fosset went down is vast… and has many holes into which a wreck could drop.

Wonder where Steve Fossett has gone. He won’t have a simple life always having to look over his shoulder, but there we are, if he has done a runner, done a Darwin, and he just may get away with it if one of his ladies doesn’t tell on him He would be in a rather precarious position one would think!
edited jj its still a hypothetical theory, lyn
the fact the searchers found 6 other planes could suggest that 6 other pilots could have legged it too? at some hypothetical point

“It’s not like we didn’t have our eyes open. We found six other planes while we were looking for him. We’re pretty good at what we do.”
It’s a good job SF went missing then. If they are so good why didn’t they find them when they crashed?

Well, the insurer’s risk assessor says:
””What I am interested in is the truth - and a proper criminal investigation of this man’s disappearance was never undertaken by law enforcement or officials in the state of Nevada.”
Of course, the fact that the insurers stand to lose £25million is entirely irrelevant to his conclusions…

Its the ‘in’ thing a bit like the fall and rise of Reggie Perrin or John Darwin…
