Listen Annie, I am not defending their babysitting arrangements am I? No thats right im not. If you read carefully you will note that im defending their actions to campaign for an Amber Alert system which Karen found to be rather hypocritical. They are not using the campaign as a detraction for their own mistake and are blaming no one either.

We all make mistakes and from those mistakes lessons can be learned, by everyone. For those people who adopted the same sitting arrangements as the McCanns they certainly will think twice about it next time. And for the rest of us who take holidays abroad with young kids, such a system in place is a little more comforting than nothing at all.

So my luvvy, that is not defending the McCanns or the so-called neglect as you keep meandering on about.

And no artticle of Amaral replying Clarence on Correio da Manhã.

The mention of the constraints the law has on British media via libel laws was incidental.
What was of more concern to me was the repeated attempts by some to use material from (principally Portuguese) other overseas media which were publishing alleged leaked material as fact.
That is dangerous. All journalists are trained to check and double check the facts before releasing them. The same in not necessarily true of certain newspapers and media sites elsewhere.
This thread was started on the basis of an interview which was broadcast by the News on Line in Portugul.

Carmen, one of our Moderators, lives close by and saw the interview with Goncarlo Amaral. It would have been easy to have a Google or Babelfish translation but editor Paul Sorene waited for the official transcript. The thread was based on a transcript which Anorak’s editor had asked for and eventually obtained at the suggestion of a Moderator…not me. It was correct and proper accredited journalism in the best sense.
The debate can then be opened up.

News is based on fact and PR people often use three rules to decribe how to manipulate or perhaps a better term, massage, news coverage.

The golden rules:
1. Information abhors a vacuum
2. In the absence of correct informatio gosip and rumour fill the void.
3. Unless the correct facts are made clear and quickly, rumour is accepted fact.

Anorak is about fact and the way those facts are reported.
We like to labour under the impression we have a fair stab at what we do and some even consider us to be the very best at doing it.
