Keith Vaz Is Batman’s Biggest Joker

by | 4th, August 2008

SAYS the glutinous Keith Vaz on the matter of Batman:

“The BBFC should realise there are scenes of gratuitous violence in The Dark Knight to which I certainly would not take my 11-year-old daughter. It should be a 15 certificate.”

Oh, the embarrassment of being the younger Vaz, daughter to the oleaginous chair of the Home Affairs Select Committee. Oh, to presume that your 11-year-old daughter would want to go to the cinema with her dad, a man once censored for a “serious breaches of the Code of Conduct and a contempt of the House”.

But Vaz is not alone.

The Independent talks of “Record complaints for Batman film over rating”.

Want to know how many that is? Have a guess. It’s 70. Yeah, as many as that. Says the Indy:

The Joker, regularly describes his pleasure in killing people with a knife because it takes longer for them to die. At one point he rams a pencil into a man’s eye.

But you don’t see the eye stab. You don’t see the eyeball sat on the pencil like a bloody picked onion on a multi-talented cocktail stick. You just sense it’s happening.

Just because the Joker lauds violence. Just because the Joker wants to stab you. Just because the Joker takes you his lair and sharpens his pencil. And just because the Joker lifts the pencil, peels back your eyelid and… None of that means he actually did it. Tsk! You’re so quick to judge.

Incidentally, Keith Vaz voted in favour of 42 days detention without trial. Scary stuff…
