Madeleine McCann: McCanns Outrage Or Fury
MADDIE WATCH - Anorak’s at-a-glance guide to press coverage of Madeleine McCann, Kate McCann and Gerry McCann…
Hacks are sifting through the Portuguese police’s files.
And reporters are divided: are the McCanns outraged or furious?

Disgrace in Holland:
The couple’s spokesman Clarence Mitchell said: “If it was Madeleine, it was a disgrace that it was not passed on. We need to know what happened with this.
DAILY TELEGRAPH: “Madeleine McCann: Gerry and Kate learn of Amsterdam sighting - Kate and Gerry McCann have uncovered agonising details about a sighting of a young girl who called herself Maddy and said she had been taken from her mother while on holiday.
Anna Maria Stam, 41, was working in a shop which sold balloons and fancy dress at the beginning of May last year – before she heard the news about Madeleine.
She saw a Portuguese looking man and woman with a French accent walk in with a boy aged six and an eight-year-old girl.
Watching the seemingly happy group, she spotted another little girl, aged about three with shoulder length brown hair, standing nearby.
Her witness statement said: “The little girl stood before me and asked me in English: ‘Do you know where my Mummy is?’
“I answered that her mother was a little bit further back in the shop and she answered: ‘She is not my Mummy.’
“I asked her who the woman was, and she said: ‘She is a stranger, she took me from my Mummy.’ I noticed the little girl spoke good English without an accent.
“Next I asked the little girl what her name was and she said: ‘My name is Maggie.’
“When I repeated it, the little girl said, ‘No, my name is Maddy’. I still remember that because I thought it was a rare name which you didn’t often hear.
“I then asked her where she had last seen her mother and she answered: ‘They took me from my holiday.’”
The little girl then left with the woman. When Miss Stam saw Madeleine’s picture on the internet, she said: “We thought it was very much like the little girl except the colour of the hair.”
Shock - the spotter did NOT tell the papers.
Much more to follow…

What I really don’t get is that it is sooooo transparent. I’m amazed presenters can keep straight faces. I wrote a comment on Sky that didn’t through moderation and asked them “do they want the public never to believe their news (Sky) ever again”. Same for BBC news actually. I don’t think they realise what damage they are causing themselves for the future. How will they get out of this impossible situation when the truth eventually comes out, which I believe it will. Would the line be - we were duped into believing them? It’s ruined their reputation for a very long time to come.

slap my own wrist.
what am I talking about!!! I completely forgot the headline news some month’s ago which announced that Kate McCann was going to shed a tear on spanish tv.

all this ‘fury’ etc. is so counter-productive.
surely this dear sweet innocent saintly mother should realise that many people think it strange that she could not summon up the same level of emotion for the loss of her daughter.
all the strong emotions are about them…..

Eh-why do they need Clarries permission-does he have some sort of legal status I know nothing about?
August 6th, 2008 at 8:47 pm
Yes Fair and I thinks that’s why they are letting things slip through the net (literally), you just need your spade to dig a little deeper. Did you see that photo of the marked out wall? Leaves little to the imagination about what happened to that poor child. And, it’s there for all the world to see. I must say, that surprised me a lot. No wonder there have been sightings today - none of which remotely resembled Madeleine. IMO

“if they had Clarence’s permission to do so”
speaks volumes doesn’t it.
they are totally protected from the highest levels.
and those of us who are not blinded by the media need to keep asking - why.
why do they need protection if they are so innocent?
and why are they being protected when so many others are not.
key questions.

I feel there must be a lot of frustrated journalists out there who would make mincemeat out of the lot of them if they had Clarence’s permission to do so.

Christine, I don’t think you’re wrong there!

Evening all
There’s a lot of negative comments being posted on the sky website. And plenty of Clarrie bashing. I think sky are reporting the rubbish but if you look at the pictures, I’m surprised that they’ve let the photo through with the markers on the wall and the missing floor tiles which is a pretty shocking photo. I feel there must be a lot of frustrated journalists out there who would make mincemeat out of the lot of them if they had Clarence’s permission to do so.

I am normally pretty good at multi tasking but eating dinner, doing a tesco order, listening to hubby & typing on Anorak all at the same time is quite a feat even for superwoman!
Hope the last posts made sense..or not!!

I think we can say after the recent media coverage that the attention has successfully been diverted away from any wrongdoing by the Mccanns onto shortcomings(alleged) by the Portuguese police-Good day for the McCann camp I think-I think now, any oversight will be used to make the police look dull and the McCanns super caring, intelligent and despairing parents-even though allegedly they missed the biggest clue of all and that is when your child is upset, you don’t repeat the same mistake again and leave them alone-yet again….as if you need Einsteins brains to realise you should never have done it in the first place.

I would love to debate with you but have to get ready to play Skittles.
Read my last post to batman regarding the state of the fund and then tell me that the initial donations havn”t been wasted.
Catch you later.

Apart from Madeleine McCann, can anyone name any other missing child case that the British government has been actively ‘helping’ in the last few years - or since May 2007?
Any other family who have been given such support
Such protection
Such an immediate response?
Any?

CM was interviewed yesterday by Eammon Holmes and asked about the Fund. He
said there was avout £400,000 left, including the £550,000 from the Daily Express.
With initial donations of over a million, sales of wrist bands, T.Shirts, a steady flow
of donations since the original million, CM said in February they needed more, so
what have they done with all the money? Let”s say they had over £2,000,000, Metodo
3 cost £500,000 over the last ten months, that”s over a million unaccounted for, plus
whatever sales of merchandise they made. According to John McCann months ago they
could not use the Fund for Legal Expenses.

Like you I feel mad at the way the Press have been reduced to mouthpieces for our
“Democratic “Government it”s going to take a Foreign Journalist/Newspaper to do an
independent investigation.
I don”t want vengeance for the McCanns, like putting them in Jail and throwing away
the key, just some intrepid British Reporter to uncover just how far the Government
support spread.

The British Ambassador to Portugal, John Buck, resigned completely from the Foreign Office on the day our delightful ones legged it back to the UK last September. Remember that was within hours of them being asked questions which might help to throw light on what happened to their daugher!!

this makes things even more sad for that poor little child. If what you say is true, then the timing of her misfortune was convenient for lots of ‘big boys’ and meant that any justice for her would be so compromised as to be worthless.

Well, I doubt that spin doctors would polish off someone in order to displace currently bad news, but never forget the notorious ‘this would be a good day to bury bad news’ use of the Twin towers going down…

Sorry, I misread your first post. Didn”t one of the U.K. Diplomats who initially went
to PDL write saying after the initial information he received that he thought the
Government should not get too closely involved. Within days he was replaced.
I believe Esther McVey resigned when she saw what was happening and there was a
Sheree something who didn”t last long after voicing her doubts.
I hope the PJ wash their hands of this whole sorry mess and refuse to spend any more time or money on this case.
