Madeleine McCann: McCanns Outrage Or Fury
MADDIE WATCH - Anorak’s at-a-glance guide to press coverage of Madeleine McCann, Kate McCann and Gerry McCann…
Hacks are sifting through the Portuguese police’s files.
And reporters are divided: are the McCanns outraged or furious?
McCanns outraged over unseen e-fits
Outrage. Outrage. Outrage. Outrage.
Fury over book on the McCanns by disgraced police detective

Madeleine McCann: Kate and Gerry’s’ fury at ‘club’ devoted to …
Fury. Fury. Fury. Fury. Fury. Fury. Fury. Fury. Fury. Fury. Fury. Fury. Fury. Fury. Fury. Fury.
Disgrace in Holland:
The couple’s spokesman Clarence Mitchell said: “If it was Madeleine, it was a disgrace that it was not passed on. We need to know what happened with this.
DAILY TELEGRAPH: “Madeleine McCann: Gerry and Kate learn of Amsterdam sighting - Kate and Gerry McCann have uncovered agonising details about a sighting of a young girl who called herself Maddy and said she had been taken from her mother while on holiday.
Anna Maria Stam, 41, was working in a shop which sold balloons and fancy dress at the beginning of May last year – before she heard the news about Madeleine.
She saw a Portuguese looking man and woman with a French accent walk in with a boy aged six and an eight-year-old girl.
Watching the seemingly happy group, she spotted another little girl, aged about three with shoulder length brown hair, standing nearby.
Her witness statement said: “The little girl stood before me and asked me in English: ‘Do you know where my Mummy is?’
“I answered that her mother was a little bit further back in the shop and she answered: ‘She is not my Mummy.’
“I asked her who the woman was, and she said: ‘She is a stranger, she took me from my Mummy.’ I noticed the little girl spoke good English without an accent.
“Next I asked the little girl what her name was and she said: ‘My name is Maggie.’
“When I repeated it, the little girl said, ‘No, my name is Maddy’. I still remember that because I thought it was a rare name which you didn’t often hear.
“I then asked her where she had last seen her mother and she answered: ‘They took me from my holiday.’”
The little girl then left with the woman. When Miss Stam saw Madeleine’s picture on the internet, she said: “We thought it was very much like the little girl except the colour of the hair.”
Shock - the spotter did NOT tell the papers.
Much more to follow…

Yes! But I am definitely winding down on this business. To be honest, I am finding it increasingly upsetting anyway. Poor Madeleine hasn’t been found. I can’t believe that all this stuff is now being plastered all over the media for people to cry over, sneer at, slaver over or whatever takes their fancy. It just seems the last straw. Can you imagine that Kate’s letter to Rebelo has actually been published?? Or that we know she and Gerry had a row? Incredible really.
Well, I suppose I can’t make the alcoholic’s definitive break but definitely winding down. Much to everyone’s relief, no doubt! Will miss you all when I finally tail off……….that’s the problem!
I agree with you that public sympathy is definitely for the McCanns but I think it mostly has been anyway because people have felt for a long time that the police didn’t have the evidence and the Mcs should have their suspect status lifted. I think a lot of people wobbled when they were made arguidos but as soon as reports came through that the forensic stuff was unreliable or inconclusive, I think opinion began to change back and the longer it went on with no arrests, the clearer it became, in people’s minds anyway, that they were not guilty.
But I agree that the reporting has been absolutely pathetic. That rag, the Express will recover its money with its current headlines, no doubt. One minute smearing them as child-killers and the next crying over supposed missed leads in the search for their child. I don’t think there is any hope at all for our media.
Haven’t watched BBC news yet. Will do so now.
Good night! Can’t quite explain why I feel so much less like talking or even thinking about it but my interest is definitely waning. Think I’m literally “sick” of it. But I sincerely thank everyone who has made me think about this case from so many different points of view. And everyone, especially, who has been kind or accepting of a view which hasn’t been held by the majority of Anorakers! Like you, whoops! Thank you.

Ade! Hi again! Go to McCann Files.com.
The chap Nige who runs that site is most diligent and organised.
He is so clever that I was going to ask him to lunch at the Inns of Court last week - but I had to have my hair and nails done.

Kittens! One night I had to give my Hubby an emergency trachy with my best fountain pen.
I managed to get the heavy Aubusson rolled up in time but what a fucking mess was left on the walls.
Days later, I was ruminating over an article in the Telegraph and as I looked up there were tiny little specks that looked like pin-mould on the walls!
Even though I had wiped everywhere down so scrupulously - there it was …… And don’t laugh ….. about a week later …… there was another bit I had missed by the window. It had gotten everywhere! lol
Anyway ….. I don’t know why God wants me to share that with you - but make of it what you will. X

every time they splutter something about our ‘beautiful little girl’ I think it is because they are having difficulty in remembering!

Hi Ade
Go to Sky news, front page, Madeleine case, and they’ve got a series of photos - about 20. I think it maybe photo number 6 7 or 8. if you haven’t got access, I’ll try and get a link. I’m not that great at the links thing myself but i’ll have a look now.
Would like to know what you make of it.

Right! - That’s 90% of the UK newspaper readers and TV-watching public satisfied with the ‘There but for the grace of God go I syndrome.’
I’ve just got to sort out the Commentariat and the I Don’t Give a Fuck Brigade out now and I am laughing all the way to the bank!
Must remember to put that poor child on my Things To Do List! What’s her name - Maddie or Madeleine?
August 6th, 2008 at 9:18 pm
given the Irish connection, I am still surprised that the Irish media have not also embraced the ‘poor completely uninvolved and grossly mistreated by the nasty foreign PJ’ approach.
especially as they have been very vociferous regarding the shabby treatment of Barry George by Sky news.
And what has happened to the ever reliable Auntie Phil?

They already did forget her name. Gerry called her “Margaret” at some point or so I read a long time ago. What truth there is in that I have no idea but I believe he struggled to find her name from his memory bank.
There was also a you tube which was when they got back from Portugal, broadcast on BBC East Midlands, where Gerry said he was upset that he was returning to England WITHOUT KATE. I saw that with my very own eyes and when I pointed it out on here to Stevo, it was whoosh clunked pronto. Pity I didn’t save it at the time. Stevo did see it that night though.

Lone
Yesterday was the first time I’ve ever heard my husband comment on this story.
After reading The Mirror yesterday, his thoughts were that the PJ had ‘cocked up’.
I was too gobsmacked to reply …. plus I was watching something on the telly, so I didn’t bother answering him
Today however, when he saw the front page, then pointed out the picture inside The Mirror he became quite damning of the PJ even more.
I did point out to him that hair length was different and that the Dutch Police had acted on it and ruled out that it was Madeleine, to which he promptly flicked straight to the back pages and had a good laugh over the plight of Wayne Rooney.
And this is from a man who always tells ME never to believe anything that’s written in the papers!
I agree with what others have pointed out - the last few days reportings, has been spun in favour of the McCanns.

You only have to look at Sharon Matthews who, apparently, imitated the abduction and asked for donations (even asked Clarrie). Her daughter was found alive and well after three weeks and now she is the Queen’s guest for some time to come.

Lone Pigeon ……. aha! In my measured and considered deliberation of the ridiculous amount of factual information that I have in my learned yet feeble mind - I would say to you as a working Judge in this fair land - Fucking dead right! It outweighs the support.
I am in a very difficult position being a Judge - but I am going to start a PR exercise for this broken and humiliated family.
Due to the site being monitored by people like Rasputin and coolandcalm - I will have to be careful how I tell you all what I am up to.
August 6th, 2008 at 9:06 pm
all the discussions are about the parents and the pj.
In this respect they have done a wonderful job. They have completely succeeded in shifting the spotlight off what really happened to Madeleine McCann.
Now it is all about whether or not they were fairly treated.
I am waiting for the day they actually forget her name during an interview.

With regard to the question about the supposed sighting in the shop in Amsterdam, if this is genuine (although I must admit that it sounds unlikely, in my opinion) then it is possible that a child was play acting. The Madeleine story was everywhere in early May last year. I just thought of this because my own daughter went with her father to see a show, and when she came home she told me that the actors had called some of the audience on stage and she had been one of them. She went into great detail about what happened, how she danced, etc. I was surprised because she was a shy child, but when I commented on it to her Dad, he said it hadn’t happened at all - some of the other children in the audience had gone on stage but she hadn’t! So, I just wonder whether a little girl in Holland decided to play the part of Madeleine in her mind.
————————————————————————
I had exactly the same thought. Unless the shopkeeper is simply mistaken, or worse, then I think your suggestion is probably the most likely. Kids can do all sorts of things for drama. And, of course, Madeleine was reported as being called “Maddie” and many media sources persist in calling her that even now.
August 6th, 2008 at 9:02 pm
LP-I think the way it is being portrayed at the moment the McCanns are going to get more sympathy than they have for the last 11 months-the blame has been shifted. It is now ‘those stupid cops could have caught the nasty rotters that took maddie’-in fact people will think it is the PJs fault IMO-The Mccanns made a teensy weensy error of judgement -and those silly cops should have picked her up in a nearby garage, or a clown shop in Amsterdam-Silly really.

What I don’t get is why all media outlets are taking the same line. Usually different media groups take slightly different stances on various items. In this case it is as though a directive has been issued with states that no matter what - the McConns must at all times remain above any suspicion and there are to be no awkward questions regarding their possible involvement or their responsibility.
As I have said for months and months - if this had happened to a working class family from the ‘wrong side of the tracks’ accusations of irresponsibility, greed and capitalising on their daughter’s plight would be continuous and viscious.
But in this case, NO one is prepared to stand up and ask the hard questions.
This media complicity and obvious government support are the most suspicious aspects to this whole sorry saga. And that started with this being international headline news within only hours of the alarm first being raised. Such an instant reponse - with no time for verification - is most unusual.
Egg will be left on faces. You are right there.

Christine-i don’t understand how-how is he doing this Chatelaine-but you’re right i could do with a lie down.
August 6th, 2008 at 8:56 pm
hello everyone
If you take the amount of sympathy for the Mccanns and the amount of doubt for the mccanns and compared the two does everyone agree that the amount of dount over the Mccanns far outweighs the amount of support?
Please answer this honetly after thinking about it for a while - i’m talking about public opinion in all streams of media outlets and rag readers and just who everyone knows i.e freinds and family
August 6th, 2008 at 8:55 pm
