Disgrace in Holland:
The couple’s spokesman Clarence Mitchell said: “If it was Madeleine, it was a disgrace that it was not passed on. We need to know what happened with this.
DAILY TELEGRAPH: “Madeleine McCann: Gerry and Kate learn of Amsterdam sighting - Kate and Gerry McCann have uncovered agonising details about a sighting of a young girl who called herself Maddy and said she had been taken from her mother while on holiday.
Anna Maria Stam, 41, was working in a shop which sold balloons and fancy dress at the beginning of May last year – before she heard the news about Madeleine.
She saw a Portuguese looking man and woman with a French accent walk in with a boy aged six and an eight-year-old girl.
Watching the seemingly happy group, she spotted another little girl, aged about three with shoulder length brown hair, standing nearby.
Her witness statement said: “The little girl stood before me and asked me in English: ‘Do you know where my Mummy is?’
“I answered that her mother was a little bit further back in the shop and she answered: ‘She is not my Mummy.’
“I asked her who the woman was, and she said: ‘She is a stranger, she took me from my Mummy.’ I noticed the little girl spoke good English without an accent.
“Next I asked the little girl what her name was and she said: ‘My name is Maggie.’
“When I repeated it, the little girl said, ‘No, my name is Maddy’. I still remember that because I thought it was a rare name which you didn’t often hear.
“I then asked her where she had last seen her mother and she answered: ‘They took me from my holiday.’”
The little girl then left with the woman. When Miss Stam saw Madeleine’s picture on the internet, she said: “We thought it was very much like the little girl except the colour of the hair.”
Shock - the spotter did NOT tell the papers.

Indeed so.
But in the end it comes down to personal response; I find the spin machine laughable, but that’s because I know something about how investigations are conducted. And I know a bit about the way spin worked under teflon tony, also.
Many of the people going oo aa over the fragrant duo are pig ignorant; they aren’t informed in the first place and their literacy skills are so poor they can’t manage more than the very limited vocabulary in the tabloids.
It’s called dumbing down, and you can’t continue to dumbdown without reaching a level where everything is reduced to tabloidese and daytime television.
But teflon tony took us into a disastrous war with the very same techniques that Clarrie has been using for the McCanns; at the end of the day some people do, finally, realise they’ve been taken for fools.
A hell of a lot of people have died as a result of the wizardry involved; Madeleine is just another victim.
And when the inevitable happens and the McCanns realise that Brittannia no longer rules the waves, what is left then?
A round of shoddier and shoddier television sofas, because they don’t dare to face the pros; Oprah eats people like Clarrie without bothering to spit out the pips…

I had done a fairly long post (well for me) a while ago. Had a phone call & cat sat on lap top. Sent it into ‘hibernation’. Lost the lot!

But to do this means we also have to accept
It is OK/understandable to leave your 3 kids under 4 alone night after night although babysitting was available.
It is OK to refuse to help the police - even though they are trying to find your daughter.
It is OK to refuse to accept any responsibility.
It is OK not to bother to look for your child yourselves.
It is OK to protect your own backsides rather than focus on trying to help find your daughter.
I am not so sure that public opinion really is in blind support of the McCanns, but rather disgusted with the ham-fisted way in which the PJ’s handling of the case is being portrayed.

Oh gawd people - let me explain. There were a series of photos on the Sky website today (about 20), they were of the apartment inside and out of 5A. One of the photos was from the lounge:
I describe:
The markers were numbered, up to 14 I think with what the PJ considered evidence. It looked like a shocking sight to be honest because they were marked on two walls and on varying heights on two walls (one of which was a window with dark blue curtains).
I may be just missing the photos on Sky but I’ve looked and now I can’t find them. Can’t even find THAT photo on the other site.

Maria -you are right there are many more newspapers to be sold on the strength of this ’story’-I do feel the press has been manipulated and is now manipulating us. In fact Madeleine has been used and that is the saddest part of all of this.
