More No News On Not John Edwards’ Baby

by | 7th, August 2008

JOHN Edwards, the former Presidential hopeful, is the subject of the biggest non-story in the US. The National Enquirer broke it. But no other big US media player wants to give the tabloid credit. Says John Edwards:

I think every single candidate for president, Republican and Democratic have lives, personal lives, that indicate something about what kind of human being they are. And I think it is a fair evaluation for America to engage in to look at what kind of human beings each of us are, and what kind of president we’d make.

Can a frontline politician hide:

It almost doesn’t matter whether reports from a tabloid newspaper are true, former presidential contender John Edwards is not only off the vice presidential list, his status as the third-place finisher, guaranteed a convention slot, is in jeopardy as well, McClatchy’s Mark Johnson writes. The mainstream media, including this space, hasn’t touched the story with a ten-foot pole, but if Edwards speaks at the convention, he won’t be able to avoid answering questions.

What d’yer say, John:

Edwards said, “I’ve responded, consistently, to these tabloid allegations by saying I don’t respond to these lies.”

He’s not alone in not responding to the allegations:

Leno made another joke about Edwards last night, according to Byron York:

…something to the effect of: “The National Enquirer reports that John Edwards’ mistress is receiving $15,000 a month in hush money. No word on how much the mainstream media is getting.” The audience reportedly got the joke.

Is the mainstream media politcally biased?

Does anybody out there think that the big media would be “responsible” and “handle this with kids gloves” if a Republican were involved?

Edwards endorsed Obama:

“It is time for me to step aside so that history can blaze its path,” he said.

With his wife and children at his side, Edwards said he couldn’t predict “who will take the final steps to 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue,” but he said it would be a Democrat.

And the media will do its best to help that become a reality…
