After the wonderful opening Ceremony for the Olympics, within a day, an American is shot dead in China and the Russians bomb Chechnya, with approx 60 people dead.

Is there any hope for Civilisation ?

Seraphiel. You are correct the copy does not say Russian troops were in South Ossetia it says Georgian troops were in (which is correct). As a result, within a very few hours, Russian tanks also rolled in. That can not be done on a whim and shows a high degree of military awareness and planning. It would very foolish of you to think otherwise.
The Beijing Olympic opening ceremony and celebrations were still running. The world leaders were still in China.
Anorak does not make the news; it observes and reports .
Gratuitous insult would be better used when you have actually managed to read the story as written.
I am unable to defend the headline writer… not me…but I am grateful he dragged you from a stupor long enough to to be sufficiently stirred by the reported events to complain. That in itself is a measure of communicative success.

Russia takes advantage of the Olympic Games. Sure…… Russian army troops weren’t even in South Ossetia when the OL started. Speaking about a bunch of bull.

And this could start a Cold War. A Very Cold War - No central heating! No gas! No Russian dolls and no errrm! Can’t think of anything else we need from Russia really. Oh yes ….. No national security as we currently know it! Great!
