MOST sightings of missing Madeleine McCann seem to involve Belgium and a paedophile ‘ring’ which might have kidnapped the child ‘to order’. Belgian police received more than 100 sightings, 30 of which required checking.

But the latest - by British businessman Trevor Francis, 64 - was on the Venezuelan island of Margarita. Nursing home owner Francis, who keeps a yacht there, says a girl he thinks was ‘Madeleine’ came into a restaurant with three women - all of Latin origin - and had the telltale blemish in her right eye.
He did.
In one sighting, the girl involved said she was ‘Maddie’ and had been taken from her mother. Yet the McCanns say Madeleine was never known as ‘Maddie’ to them. It’s an abbreviation devised by newspapers so the name will fit headlines.

The sniffer dogs went in on the recommendation of the British police expert who felt that the enquiry should follow a different direction. Until then, it had been looking for an abductor. This was some months after Madeleine’s disappearance. The Portuguese police were therefore not expecting to carry out any more tests on the apartment.
Sorry if I’m covering old ground here - I’m new to Anorak and don’t want to bore you old-timers who have no doubt discussed all this in great depth in the past! The point of my first post was just to make the point that there seem to be an awful lot of contradictions and unanswered questions in the Portuguese police report and I really wish the British press would address some of those instead of going along the ‘abduction-incompetent police- McCanns are innocent’ route and stating it as fact without even considering some of the other implications of the police report. It may be correct. It may not. We don’t know. But surely a free non-biased press should find out?
And a quick question - does anyone know why the McCanns ‘lawyers’ are poing through the police files in the hunt for more clues into Maddie’s whereabouts, and not their private investigators? Wouldn’t the investigators seem a better bet?

Wasn’t Cuddle Cat tested for forensic evidence? In fact I think I read that the police did take it away for a brief period and then returned it to Kate (although that may be wrong). If Cuddle Cat wasn’t tested, then I agree entirely that it should have been.
Forensic tests were carried out in the apartment immediately and in the days after Madeleine’s disappearance; once the police felt they had gained all the forensic evidence available, why would they need to seal the apartment off?

Not to mention letting it out four times weeks after her disappearance and BEFORE DNA tests and sniffer dogs were used. No it wasn’t competent under Amaral. I read that Rebelo was appalled at the mess he found. Bits of information scribbled on scraps of paper, not properly logged etc etc. I think he’s done as thorough a job as he can considering it was all too late by the time he got there.

BF… yep! got the call from Gordy in May and got to work right away.
actually I’d been hanging around Anorak for ages before that. Loved the threads of The Mail and different illnesses every day, and the Express (al-fayed Express) and Diana alive and well in Harvey Nicks.
Then the Madeleine thread just took off and I stayed with it.
One day I shall be brave and leave for good.
It will be solved I’m sure, even though I know we think differently about what the solution actually is.

How do you explain not seizing the toy which Kate claimed had been moved by the abductor? This could have held vital clues. No?
