Madeleine McCann: With Columnist Fergus Shanahan And The Maddie Squad
MADDIE WATCH - Anorak’s at-a-glance guide to press coverage of Madeleine McCann, Kate McCann and Gerry McCann
THE COLUMNISTS
FERGUS SHANAHAN: “SWOOP FOR MADDIE”
“I tried to imagine the misery Kate and Gerry McCann must be going through with these Maddie sightings. It’s too awful.”
See the Sun’s front-page Maddie update in which she is served an ice-cream in Brussels. Shanahan is the paper’s deputy editor. It’s too awful…
“They must cling to any hope. But some of the latest rash of ‘sightings’ are based on thin detail.”
The ice-cream was chocolate.
“Sadly, the Maddie tragedy is attracting its fair-share of attention seekers”
The Sun’s front page says the ice-cream was cold and sweet – just how Maddie likes them!
“It seems unlikely that Europe’s most instantly recognisable child would be walked through city streets by her abductors.”
More likely she’d stop and be bought an ice cream…
“But if convincing reports of sightings continue, Scotland Yard should set up a Maddie squad capable of moving instantly anywhere in Europe.”
On the Sun’s word…

Brandon Flours - have just wasted 15 minutes of my life watching your first link and no joy on the second. I doubt there is anything I haven’t heard a hundred times already, so no loss.

Hello everyone
Just thought I would add my thoughts on this tragic matter which I have followed from day one. It really is a shame that the priest cannot talk. Whilst I understand that confession is a private thing between God, the priest and the confessor, if someone, regardless of whom and of what deed were to confess to murder or some other heinous crime, the priest should be obligated to report this to the authorities.
When you attend the counselling service where I work, you are told that everything that is discussed is on a purely confidential basis (between yourself and the counsellor) but if you were to confess to either having of thoughts of doin’ yourself in or of harming another person, they would be obliged to disclose that information.
Some matters should not be regarded as confidential! As I said …………………. it is such a shame the priest cannot talk!

You are assuming that the priest in question may have information relating to Madeleine’s disappearance.
You have no evidence to support that assumption.

I read this in Wikipedia
One example given of the ultimate of chutzpah is: “A boy, having just been convicted of murdering his parents, begs the judge for leniency because he is an orphan.”

Gailen, I happen to agree with most of the article, but this being a debating forum I feel at liberty to question certain parts of it, see my earlier posts.
I am no fan of Insp Amaral but I do want to know what happened to Maddy and for whoever did it to get their comeuppance.

I think most people are concerned about what happened to MM.
And wish to hear and see what the truth reveals.
Sadly, I do not believe that she ever reached her 4th Birthday…alive.

The whole slant of this thread is that most posters are gleefully waiting for the McCanns to get their comeuppance. To say anything else is being disingenuous. Posters like Maria and Daisy are given a hard time because they do not go along with it. The article Daisy posted was very good and pretty much what most people think outside of the Anorak coven.
Bollocks is it. Are you also a supporter of neglect?

Another quote from the anonymous NOTW detective:
@
Unless the Portuguese police have something else, it doesn’t make sense. The couple don’t fit the profile and their opportunity was limited.
@
Perhaps Stefan Kizco, Colin Stagg and Barry George fitted “the profile” though ultimately all were innocent in the eyes of the law. Perhaps Harold Shipman got away with it for so long because he didn’t seem to fit “the profile”?
And what about Sally Clark, a high-flying solicitor who was prosecuted for child murder, the authorities must have thought she fitted “the profile” or they wouldn’t have charged her, ultimately she was innocent too. And didn’t someone allege that Robert Murat fitted “the profile”?
So, what exactly is “the profile”?
As for opportunity, we don’t know the contents of all the witness statements yet.

Maria said
‘Of course, fate seems to have inflicted its own punishment, worse than any the law could impose.’
Fate had nothing to do with it.
Just as God had nothing to do with taking away the little girl who died on Boxing Day, notwithstanding her parents’ claims to the contrary.
The constant desire to blame someone, anyone, for the dreadful consequences of parental neglect, other than the parents, has reached it’s inevitable conclusion; it’s all God’s fault.
Desperate times call for desperate measures…
August 12th, 2008 at 3:30 pm
Maria,
I generally respect your views and have some common ground with you with regards to this case, but regardless of what the Law says in Portugal or the UK, leaving young children unattended for even a few minutes is not acceptable in my views. They did it again and again and again, even after Maddie apparently cried her eyes out in distress and questioned them about leaving them alone. For that only reason, IMO, they don’t deserve to have children!! They are not responsible adults, but neglectful to the extreme, IMO.
I think they should receive some punishment and hopefully, other neglectful parents will get the message: There is no excuse to leave young children unattended!!
Now I’m really gone … bye.
