Madeleine McCann: With Columnist Fergus Shanahan And The Maddie Squad
MADDIE WATCH - Anorak’s at-a-glance guide to press coverage of Madeleine McCann, Kate McCann and Gerry McCann
THE COLUMNISTS
FERGUS SHANAHAN: “SWOOP FOR MADDIE”
“I tried to imagine the misery Kate and Gerry McCann must be going through with these Maddie sightings. It’s too awful.”
See the Sun’s front-page Maddie update in which she is served an ice-cream in Brussels. Shanahan is the paper’s deputy editor. It’s too awful…
“They must cling to any hope. But some of the latest rash of ‘sightings’ are based on thin detail.”
The ice-cream was chocolate.
“Sadly, the Maddie tragedy is attracting its fair-share of attention seekers”
The Sun’s front page says the ice-cream was cold and sweet – just how Maddie likes them!
“It seems unlikely that Europe’s most instantly recognisable child would be walked through city streets by her abductors.”
More likely she’d stop and be bought an ice cream…
“But if convincing reports of sightings continue, Scotland Yard should set up a Maddie squad capable of moving instantly anywhere in Europe.”
On the Sun’s word…

Even if the donor wanted to be anonymous Clarrie could still have claimed that it showed utter faith in the McCanns…
And on that uplifting note I must say goodnight…

And … I think there’s a HUGE difference between listening at the window at 9 pm or going in, seeing the twins yet not MM at 9:30. You agree?

Didn’t help, did it? It was Matt O. offering to take KM’s turn at 9:30, according to later statements…

I do find it strange; there hasn’t been any hint in our press about such a large donation.
If it had happened I would have thought that Clarrie would be shouting it from the roof tops…

Strange it is, you’re right [though there's a lot on the continent that hasn't reached the U.K. press yet or late]. Maybe Clarence doesn’t tell yet, because the benefactor wants to be anonymous??? Just guessing…

Thanks for the info; did CdM give any clue as to where they claim the 2 million euros in July came from?
****
Unfortunately not, Chenier. It’s quite a big sum to suck out of the thumb, though one never knows nowadays with newspapers

Did you see the (alledged) picture of G’s timeline that he wrote a few hours after ‘Zero hour’ ?
Interesting that he writes that Mat O listened at all three windows on his check.

Also “interesting” to see that his checking time changed from 9:30 to 9:00 pm …!

And if Team McCann is prepared to pay good money to follow up these inanities the Fund isn’t going to survive much longer anyway…
+++++
They seem to have to money for paying 212,000 a month:
Correio da Manha 12.08.08
Verbas esgotadas
O porta-voz dos McCann divulgou em Junho que o fundo não estava esgotado, havendo então 630 mil euros.
Mais dois milhões
Em Julho o fundo foi reforçado com dois milhões de euros de donativos.
Empty fund – The McCanns’ spokesman stated in June that the fund was not drained, and that 630 thousand euros were then available.
Another two million – In July, the fund was reinforced with two million euros of donations.

I think that the LC may have realised a tad too late that there were serious problems with the story as presented, and have been scrambling to make up the lost ground.
I’m not sure whether it was the LP or the FSS that wanted the DNA stuff kept secret; as I have said before it may be that there are implications for other cases, where the numbers were deemed sufficient to present as strong evidence of identity, leading to convictions on very serious charges.
The whole point about international co-operation is that it’s a two way process; the Belgian police had every right to go apeshit about the way our plod handled an anonymous telephone call 10 months after the event.
Treaties only work when both sides are committed…

Coco:
Maria is such a joke.
She tries to be all jolly and down to earth, “I’m just an ordinary poster me, no agenda at all!” yet she has all pro-McCann lies and propaganda at her fingertips. (Well, put at her fingertips once she has contacted the mothership for information.)

Did you see the video that Brandon linked to.
I don’t know how accurate it was but it suggested that the DNA results were pretty conclusive initially (as reported). The lab then decided to recheck them and during this process they were contaminated with other DNA (alledgedly from lab techs). And so they could not confirm the origional results.
When the PJ asked for the samples to be returned so that they could recheck them elsewhere, they mysteriousley went missing.
Seems pretty damning if true.
Another question that springs to mind is that LP application for these files not to be released. The assumption was that this is in order to protect the McC’s but could it not also be inorder for them to use the results themselves? What you fink?
August 13th, 2008 at 12:09 am
These fucking DNA reports have had enough time to fucking languish!
And the Clan statements are not hitting the head-lines and Gordon still will not pick the phone up to me.
Somebody has sent me a box of Milk Tray though! It was at the top of my flag-pole when I brought the flag down tonight. Spooky!

I agree that the tabloid media spin is sick; it comes back to people constructing a world of fantasy.
Spin Doctors and moral panic legislation; I still find Vogel’s paper written 4 years ago eerily prophetic.
But the people constructing the moral panic are not doing so for benign reasons…

It can be a bit much when they’re making you feel like you’re 3 - but compared to Gandolf when he’s got it in for me, and RR and all the odd ones that suddenly post vicious crap at me when I wasn’t even aware of them, and ones with victim complexes or keyboard tourette’s (not including Coco
) - they’re not that bad.
August 13th, 2008 at 12:05 am
Jass …….. Exactly1 I note that there is bugger all on the telly - so where are all the multi-posters and the other people I ususally play with on here?

No; the DNA reports are still languishing somewhere or another.
The problem is that we are dependent on what the media thinks is important rather than what is important…

What did your dad do? Is it like Patsy Kensit? You found out he was a gangster 20 years after the general public did?

The sightings just go to prove how sick the tabloid press is. They know they’re not likely, they know that the story about the paedo ring isn’t credible and yet they enjoy spinning fantasies about Madeleine in the hands of pervs, walking about all forlorn, permanently nearly rescued.
The technical term is emotional porn (like Doctor Who when he’s all lonely and conflicted.

I haven’t seen the full statements anywhere; presumably sooner or later they will all become available, and, since the ’sightings’ are becoming more ludicrous by the day, it seems unlikely that anyone other than the gutter press is going to pay any attention to them.
And if Team McCann is prepared to pay good money to follow up these inanities the Fund isn’t going to survive much longer anyway…

It depends what kind of Dad in high places you have. They’re either over indulgent and you end up coked up to the eyeballs (me) or they never do a bloody thing for you and you have to work like a dog (my sister - 10 years made a huge difference).
