Madeleine McCann: Tourist Has New Pictures Of Tapas 7 For Sale
PAULO Reis has published an interesting piece of information on the Madeleine McCann case on his site. Read on:
“McCann case: 24 pictures that may help to re-open the case
A tourist who was (allegedly) at the Tapas Bar, on the night of May 3, took several pictures where the table with the McCanns and their friends is visible.
The tourist was with his wife and another couple and they took pictures from each other, with the McCann table on the background.
The owner of the pictures is (said to be) negotiating with several British newspapers to sell the rights for an exclusive publication, but with a condition: before being published, the pictures must be sent to the Portuguese police.
The tourist is well aware that the pictures may have important evidence related with a crime and not sending it to police is considered also a crime, in his country.
Yesterday, a well known legal office from UK (allegedly) knew about the existence of those pictures and contacted the owner, offering to buy all pictures for 600,000 Euros. But the British lawyers didn’t accept the condition set by the owner – that the pictures should be sent to the Portuguese police, just before the transaction. The lawyers’ office wanted to be free to choose the moment when the pictures would be send to Portuguese authorities, so the offer was refused by the tourist.“
The original article is here: http://gazetadigitalmadeleinecase.blogspot.com/2008/08/mccann-case-24-pictures-that-may-help.html
Wrires Carmen:
Assuming that the above is true and genuine, it begs the question, when exactly did ‘British lawyers’ feel that they were able to dictate when information in a criminal case should be handed over to the police? Is Madeleine not a Ward of Court, are they not officers of the court? Do they not have a duty to the court - the British court - not just the Portuguese court, to instantly hand over any information that may be pertinent to solving the riddle of what happened to Madeleine.
I have mixed feelings regarding the purchase of information when it is done by newspapers, but is this a new era, that information is being purchased by lawyers, who then decide what to do with it?
Why has the tourist not come forward before?
What or whom, is, or is not, in those photographs that makes them worth 600,000 euros.
Where is the 600,000 euros coming from - the last we heard the McCann Find Madeleine fund was down to it’s last 480,000 euros. So it could not possibly be the legal firm involved with the McCann Fund…could it?
One other question would be if the tourist sold the pictures to a legal firm intent on suppression - would the gent have his collar felt?

Just in case anyone misses it on the previous thread, Cheryl has welcomed the appointment of yet another firm of investigators with the claim that it will help find Madeleine or her remains.
I have pointed out that if you want to find a body dogs are rather better at it than humans…

Marie Nicholas, in answer to your questions,
“It seems to me that vital information hasn’t been fully explored in the investigation, like the credit cards accounts. Why didn’t the PJ insist to get the accounts, even if not for the 6 months? Did they feel they didn’t get the necessary support? Or did they themselves decide not to try and get them?”
The stolen wallet story is a clue, IMO. IMO, British detectives were following Gerald and they lifted his wallet, hoping to discover more about his financial connections. At the time, I remember everyone thinking that Gerald’s publication of his stolen wallet was a ploy to gain sympathy. I rather think he may have been alerting someone to the capture of their financial information.

Good point never thought of that.

From an old (ish) article (Times December 07) but relevant to today’s thread I would say:
@
Gerry had knocked up at the start of the 4.30pm tennis-drills session, but had decided not to exacerbate an injury to his Achilles tendon, so had dropped out and waited around by the courts until the children came back from the kids’ clubs at 5pm for tea. That had been one of the most enjoyable times of the holiday, all the children together for tea, then the adults playing with them afterwards.
Gerry was in his apartment at 7pm, had a glass of water, then a beer, while the children sat with Kate on the couch having stories with a snack. The children were clearly shattered – the last thing any of them needed was a sedative and, anyway, it was not something the McCanns ever did. They put them to bed after a last story. The twins were asleep virtually the moment they lay down, Madeleine not far behind them.
These days it was rare for Madeleine to wake up at all once she was in bed. If she did, she’d normally wander into her parents’ bed, whether they were there or not. At home in Rothley, sometime earlier, they had begun a star chart for Madeleine staying in her own bed. The chart, still on display in the kitchen, was full of stars. At about 7.30pm, Kate and Gerry showered and changed and sat down to have a quiet glass of the sauvignon blanc. They were first to the table at the restaurant at 8.35 and spent some minutes talking to a couple from Hertfordshire – two more tennis players – at the next table, who were eating with their young children. As they chatted, Gerry thought how lucky he was, his children asleep nearby, he and Kate free to come and enjoy some adult time at the restaurant and not have to sit with their children, as this couple were.
The McCanns sat down after a few minutes and then ordered some wine. The Oldfields were next to arrive, then Russell O’Brien and Jane Tanner and, finally, always last, Dave and Fiona Payne with Dianne Webster.

whatever happened to the achilles injury, and are the Herts couple our happy snappers?

Catalina, thank you, if that is from the Paulo Reiss site hopefully Anorak won’t mind you posting it.
This part of the story hasn’t been given much of an airing - if you Google wilkins purple dress there are only 2 0r 3 hits. Interesting that JW has her on the scene at 8.15 but not 9.15.
8.15 would be about the time when they were all making their way to the Tapas bar, or maybe just before that. I understand it would be getting dark in PDL at about 8.30 but I could be wrong.

Same as you, I think that some interesting aspects have to be studied yet.
It seems to me that we will hear more of the role played by the Portuguese judiciary authorities, and political authorities from both countries. I didn’t follow the Control Risks lead, it isn’t very clear anyway. It probably is too early now to get the whole picture and know what is relevant. Later, some people involved, if they feel frustrated, will publish books or give interviews.
I miss Salomon. Has he read the report? What does he think about it?

regardless of the photos described above, if there are any photos…. one of my pet hates in a restaurant is the constant flash of cameras and people jumping up and down, moving around to be in the photos.
On planes, boats and trains, in the pool, on the beach, in the club…. nowhere is safe!
it seems every moment of every day has to be recorded.
Grrr.
That’s a little grumpy c&c. It’s only people having a good time. Haven’t you ever taken a picture at a restaurant or the like? You need to lighten up a bit!

24 photos aren’t a lot, with a digital camera. I take loads of them, and discard most of them.
(I took more than 1000 in July). I take them unobtrusively, and, Coolandcalm, I try to use the flash as little as I can, even in the evening ( by bringing the iso at 1000). Usually, photos of people at dinner tables are not interesting, and even horrid sometimes. I don’t take those, but now that I think of it, it seems worth it sometimes….

Thanks for the info, but if it was JT do we know when he saw her, and has she admitted to being the Lady in Violet?
**********************************************************************
From gazetadigitalmadeleinecase.blogspot
‘Questioned about Jane Tanner, who said, in her statements to police, that she saw both of them, talking, while she walked the same street to check her daughter, around 9:15 pm, Jeremy Wilkins said that he doesn’t remember to see her, during his conversation with Gerry McCann.
But he believes he saw her, when he left home between 8:15/8:30 pm, May3, 2007 – she was standing in the street, just in front of the apartment of one of the McCann friends, doesn’t know if it was her own apartment. He remembers that she was using a purple colour dress. At the time, he knew that she was one of McCann friends, but didn’t knew her name. ‘

What I find amazing is that these alleged photos are only worth allegedly 600,000, when they could perhaps hold vital clues to the disappearance of a child. But photos of Brangelina’s twins are worth 7 million …. hmm. This world is going crazier by the minute.
August 13th, 2008 at 2:52 pm
Also you would do one of say the photo of the couple who didnt own the camera and then pass it over to the other couple to take one of them.
So it would have the opposite background say showing the door.
or it could include their watches, changes of clothes, beverages, facial expressions, no one at the table, a big clock showing the times, a row, a blue bag, a car, a taxi,……
August 13th, 2008 at 2:51 pm
I just don’t know, MN.
It may be that the photographs really do exist, but I would have thought a hoax was much more probable.
And serious investigative work has already been done, but the Portuguese courts clearly rank the privacy of the individual rather higher than here in England.
The political questions remain tantalisingly unexplored; it’s no good saying the pols rigged it without trying to find out what pols, rigging what.
But it’s like the whole stuff about Control Risks being in Portugal allegedly chasing up leads; the one point that Control Risks always makes is that it is advisory, not executive.
It’s big business, and people who want to carry on making lots of money don’t piss off the people who can interfere with making money. The press describe it as a British firm, but that is meaningless; it’s a multi-national organisation.
But people will carry on running stories about it because it’s a Boy’s Own story; dashing British heroes saving fair maidens.
It’s still tosh…
