Daily Mail Headline Of The Decade: French Mayor Killed By Boule
THE Daily Wail. Each days the Dail Mail searches, scouring medical reports and research notes for news, and finally its quests bears dividends:
Lourdes tourism chief killed during a ‘tense’ game of petanque after being hit on the head by metal boule
You want more?
France has been stunned by the death of a player during a village game of boules.
Franck Hourcade, 39, was bending to examine the jack - the small ball that is the game’s target - when another player threw his heavy steel ball towards it.
Ex-pats in Fracne, take care…
Boules players can be seen in almost every French village, town and city park every day of the week.
No-one is safe, not really…

I find that if you stay out of the MM threads, it’s generally a hoot…!

Sadly, that is not an option for the M&A.
It’s a dirty job, but someone has to do it.
And, after all, it’s an indoor job with no heavy lifting.

Those boules do look suspiciously like the ball used in the film ‘rollerball’.
Maybe the French should mandate the use of spiked gloves.

I don’t think any ‘game’ is safe from hooliganism and violence nowadays. Well, bridge maybe?
I know Mahjong has caused a few deaths.

Quite a nasty game it seems……
……….There has recently been a a worrying rise in ‘le bouliganisme’, when players have come to blows over a game.
Last year - the centenary of the sport - the authorities in south and central France were forced to clamp down on physical and verbal abuse said to be caused by prize money, alcohol and a rise in uncivil behaviour in France.
Club games were briefly banned in the Nièvre region in east-central France after a series of brawls involving players and fans.
This led le Midi Libre, a leading Mediterranean region newspaper, to pronounce pétanque ‘no longer a convivial sport’.
The French Pétanque Federation has advised players to drink in moderation.
Taken I think from the same Mail article.

How ironic that it was Lourdes! Did his deputy Tourism Officer not know how to get to the healing sanctuary? Just in case they could have raised him back to life again?

Good job its not that popular here, it would be banned immediately and forever.
Strange that he is from Lourdes and still died…. Maybe someone didn’t like him and had a few words at the grotto. Yay, tis a miracle.
