Madeleine McCann: The A-Team, Ruining Lives And Spinning The Single Thread
MADDIE WATCH - Anorak’s at-a-glance guide to press coverage of Madeleine McCann, Kate McCann and Gerry McCann
DAILY STAR: “SECRET A-TEAM IN HUNT FOR MADDIE”
In 1972, a crack commando unit was sent to prison by a military court for a crime they didn’t commit. These men promptly escaped from a maximum security stockade to the Los Angeles underground.
Desperate Kate and Gerry McCann have forked out £500,000 on an “A-Team” of former top spooks to find missing daughter Madeleine.
Can the plan come together?
The couple now have “a global operation” of dozens of retired FBI, CIA and even MI5 agents dedicated to solving the mystery of her disappearance. The top secret team has been given six months to solve the riddle.
Pah! The A Team can do it in 40 minutes WITH ad breaks…
Says the McCanns’ spokesman – and still the McCanns’ spokesman – Clarence Mitchell:
“They have been on board for a few months and are on a six-month contract. For security reasons we can’t go into detail of the experts involved but it would not be wrong to say some are former military and police personnel with a degree of expertise.”
If you have a problem, if no one else can help, and if you can find them, maybe you can hire… The A-Team.
THE GUARDIAN: “Diary: Esther Addley”
Our sympathies today are split, however, for we must also spare a small pang of pity for the security guard in Brussels who on Tuesday told the Sun about his sighting of a young girl who absolutely, definitely, without question was Madeleine McCann. “I saw her face and recognised that it was her,” said the man. “I would bet everything I own that it was her.”
It was our Maddie?
And sure enough, Belgian police later confirmed - dear reader, you are ahead of me - that it wasn’t. We can find nothing, as yet, on eBay, but Kate and Gerry McCann will be heartened that the man is without doubt now living under a cardboard box with only his own gnawed fists and his shame for sustenance.
The McCann case ruins lives..?
SPIKED: “‘Our Maddie’ makes a media comeback - The silly-season resurrection of the McCann tragedy shows that this was always a cynical, elite-scripted drama.”
Not that the absence of anything beyond hypothesis has inhibited the frontpage speculation. Indeed, the absence of hard evidence at the heart of the Maddie phenomenon has been its lifeblood. With nothing known beyond the barest of facts, anything, no matter how macabre, can be guessed at. And what better than a mail-order paedophile ring based, of course, in Belgium? In lieu of evidence, good old-fashioned prejudice will do. Indeed, over the past year, two pictures showing obviously Muslim women carrying or walking with a blonde-haired girl have been splashed under the headline: ‘IS THIS MADDIE?’ Well, Arab women with a European-looking child – it’s got to be dodgy.

1 - Apartment 5A, of the resort ‘Ocean Club’, place from where the child disappeared.
- cadaver odour dog:
*in the couple’s bedroom, in a corner, close to the wardrobe;
*in the living room, behind the sofa, close to the lateral window of the apartment;
- blood dog:
* in the living room, behind the sofa, close to the lateral window of the apartment (exactly as it was signalled by the cadaver odour dog);
2 – Area of the backyard, close to the apartment 5A:
- cadaver odour dog:
* in a flowerbed, commented by the dog handler the lightness of the scent detected;
3 – Apartments where the rest of the elements of the group stayed
* NOTHING was detected by any of the dogs;
4 – House of the MCCANNs at the date of the inspection [second apartment]
* NOTHING at the house, was detected by any of the dogs;
5 - In the area of Vila da Luz
* NOTHING was detected by any of the dogs;
6 – In the clothes and belongings of the Family MCCANN
- cadaver odour dog:
* in two pieces of clothing belonging to KATE HEALY
* in a piece of clothing of the minor MADELEINE
* in the plush toy, possibly belonging to MADELEINE (it was detected cadaver odour, when the plush was inside the residence – at the date occupied by the family)
7 – In the vehicle used by the MCCANN family
- cadaver odour dog:
* signalled the key of the vehicle;
- blood dog:
* signalled the key of the vehicle;
* signalled the interior of the vehicle’s boot;
8 – In the vehicle used by a friend of the family, who stayed in the same resort, matching some of the holiday days.
pages 39 and 40
* NOTHING was detected by either dog;
9. In all the vehicles that were used by arguido ROBERT MURAT and persons that are close to him;
* NOTHING was detected by either dog.
(in a total of ten vehicles, the cadaver odour dog and the blood odour dog only signaled the vehicle that belonged to the MCCANN family, which was rented on the 27th of May)
On the locations and the pieces that were marked and signaled by the blood dog, forensics tests were performed, especially at a reputed British laboratory (Forensic Science Service – check Appendixes I and VII – FSS Final Report) but also, some of them at the reputed National Institute of Forensics Medicine (check Appendix I), whose final results did not corroborate the canine markings, which is to say, cellular material was collected that was not identified as pertaining to anyone specific, and it was not even possible to determine the quality of that material (v.g. whether it could be blood or another type of bodily fluid).
But during a first scientific approach (pages 2617 and following), the possibility of a match between the DNA profile of MADELEINE and some of the collected residues (among which those that existed in the Renault Scenic that had been rented by the McCANN couple were abundant) was raised; a match which, as can be verified in the aforementioned final report from the FSS, failed to be verified, after the execution of long and complex testing.
From the final report

The comment from the handler was to the lightness
suggests to me that it was a brief time, maybe just a few minutes while they were disturbed? or the person looked out down the road to see if all is clear ?

Or, if the scent in the flowerbed was slight, the child was picked up immediately and taken aside.
But you know, despite all these theories and possibilities about what may have happened, I still find it hard to believe that any parents could go out to dinner and behave normally if something dreadful had just happened to one of their childen. I have great faith in the findings of the sniffer dogs, but that is a stumbling block for me.

Wasn’t the “small flower bed” at the back (patio door end) & mentioned re the top of the steps had a safety gate but a child could still fall from just along a bit. The sofa in question (I believe there were 2) was in front of a window that faced elsewhere. imo.

“Interesting; the cadaver-sniffing dog is said to have signalled slight traces in a flower bed outside the apartment. Just imagine a small child climbing onto the back of a sofa - as they all do - and falling through a window….although that wouldn’t explain the scent on the floor behind the sofa and beneath the window in the apartment…. this is all so confusing!”
Consider this perhaps…..
Child climbs up onto sofa, falls through open window….is killed by her fall…lies
in the flowerbed area for more than two hours or so….when found…is picked up
…carried inside….and then hidden behind the sofa…until an alternative hiding
place can be thought of.

What was not clear was that the drop from the window - underneath which was the flower-bed was 4 metres - and the settee was under that window inside.
I can’t find the drawing showing where the dogs got scent but - did not think any of the windows were that high up !!

Indeed; it does seem to have been remarkably prescient of her…
There are some other papers specifically on Amber Alert; perhaps unsurprisingly concluding that they do nothing to prevent the murder of abductees and quite a lot to ratchet up the level of fear in communities.
Again, the hysteria is a point which Anorak has made many times…

‘The work with the English police went very well. Then, certainly due to a mere coincidence, when the McCann couple leaves, all the English policemen leave as well…’
‘ You are convinced that someone made the process reach the hands of the English.’
‘ I have that idea. I think that it even fits into that marketing campaign that is saying that the little girl is alive.’

Welcome back, Meej.
Do you have any further insights on EMcV since her departure from the
Board ?
*******************************************************************
Hiya!
I haven’t spoken to her since that last phone call in January when I got the impression that she’d been kept well out of the loop over all of this.
I think the Team wanted a figurehead/spokesperson for the Fund, but that person would not actually run it. It would be run by the family.
Few people believe me when I say that I got the powerful impression that she knew NOTHING about any suspicion falling on the parents. She seemed genuinely (and I’ve known her for a long time) gobsmacked. She’d heard nothing at all about the Portuguese press’s version of the case.
It’s what I said above, about media. Some in that ‘profession’ in this country have their fingers in their ears, or have fingers put over their ears by others, or in some cases, like certain newspaper editors and columnists, are just using this case to bankroll their own agendas.
There just isn’t any evidence of real journalism any longer. It’s all PA feeds being rejigged, and no one asking questions, for a variety of reasons, some of it laziness and ignorance - but also the menacing presence of Carter Ruck.
It’s all about money and everyone grabbing their share, over that little girl.
edited JJ , there’s no proof she is dead
Welcome back btw

Chenier, Matt,
Thank you!
I don’t feel sorry only for Madeleine, but for all children whose parents are careless about their basic needs.
How many of those children will never say a word to anybody because they know if they speak, they will be laughed at, told to trust their parents and love them, and will be made to feel guilty about their own unhappiness. And who will venture to tell the parents they don’t fulfill their duties properly? Oh no, don’t hurt the parents, even if they put the child’s life at risk. It isn’t nice.

I suspect he has convinced himself that he is being a hero; after all, Teflon Tony’s hacks are generally not exactly respected.
So this was an opportunity to make himself feel good; no longer a seedy greaser of the pols wheels but a crusader out there to bring a little girl home…
