Madeleine McCann: Looking For 1 Million, Raonaid Murray And Amaral’s Book
MADDIE WATCH - Anorak’s at-a-glance guide to press coverage of Madeleine McCann, Kate McCann and Gerry McCann
DAILY MIRROR (front page): “WE’VE SPENT £1M HUNTING FOR MADDIE.”
Kate and Gerry McCann Exclusive: We’ve spent £1m hunting Maddy - EXCLUSIVE McCanns vow to keep searching
THE SUN: “McCanns spend £1m on Maddie search” - Not exclusive.
THE MIRROR: “The couple have shielded the twins from what few facts are known about Madeleine’s disappearance in May last year.”
A few facts? There is only one fact: a child disappeared.
Gerry revealed: “They realise Madeleine is not here but they don’t know the details.”
What details?
DAILY MAIL: “Kate McCann: We’ve spent £1m trying to find Madeleine”
Speaking about their spending on the search for Madeleine, Kate said: ‘It’s a lot of money but we can’t set a limit. A child does not have a price. We will pay what we have to.”
A child might have a price. Isn’t that part of the fear?
DAILY EXPRESS: “KATE’S FURY AT DETECTIVE WHO PUBLISHED BOOK ON MADELEINE”
Fury. Always the fury.
KATE McCann has broken her dignified silence to attack the Portuguese detective who led the bungled hunt for Madeleine. She slated Goncalo Amaral for failing to find her little girl and for trying to cash in on the tragedy by writing a book
Tsk! Writing on the McCann saga for profit. The Express (10p cheaper than the Mail) is right to be outraged. What scum would do such a thing..?
As for Kate’s fury…
Says Kate McCann in Expresso, a Portuguese newspaper: “They could still have arrested us, couldn’t they? They could have stopped us from going home.”
Fury, indeed…
Says Gerry McCann: “I will be honest. We have got no idea whether Madeleine is alive or not. What we are certain of is that there is absolutely no evidence.”
Says Clarence Mitchell:
“Kate and Gerry have chosen to speak out to an element of the Portu¬guese media because they firmly believe that there may well be important information that somebody knows in Portugal. They will do everything they can to generate new leads.”
IRISH INDEPENDENT: “’I cannot bring myself to walk down the road where she died’”
Just after midnight on September 4, 1999, Raonaid Murray was murdered savagely with a knife only 500 yards from her home in the south Dublin suburb of Glenageary.
Terrible. And Madeleine..?
Sean Hammond, a lecturer in forensic psychology at University College Cork, says high-profile murders can often have a profound impact on our behaviour and our feelings of safety. “They can leave an indelible mark. Even though the risks may be very low, people may no longer feel that it is safe to walk the streets at night. If you take a case like that of Madeleine McCann, people would have adjusted their behaviour towards their children as a result of that.”
Madeleine McCann: the benchmark of pain…

They really see themselves as having contributed to the security of many families, through the sacrifice of their daughter. Maybe it helps them to think it, but still, they don’t realise what they are saying. Dreadful.

Wonder if anyone will apply to re-open the case before 20 September.

Can anyone make any sense of this?
From gazetadigitalmadeleinecase.blogspot.com
Fiona Payne, her mother, Dianne Webster and her husband David Payne denied the Mccann version of events on the night of May 3, when Madeleine disappeared. Their statements to Polícia Judiciária, on June 11, 2007, in Portimão, were clear: each couple was in charge of checking their own kids and there was no system of regularly checking all children, at the same time, by each one of the nine adults having dinner at Tapas Restaurant. According to today’s edition of Portuguese daily “24 Horas”, Fiona Payne has made statements to PJ on three different occasions, just like Mathew Oldfield and his wife Rachel. “The statement of Dianne Webster, mother of Fiona, was very consistent and there was no need to question her again”, a judicial source told “24 Horas”.“The other persons who had dinner with the Mccann – Janne Taner, Russel O’Brien, Mathew and Rachel Oldfield – made contradictory statements”, the same source said. “Jane Tanner always said that she left the restaurant to check on her daughter. Fiona, David and Dianne told PJ that she never left the restaurant, before Kate Mccann raised the alarm”, wrote “24 Horas”. These informations were confirmed by the statements of several Tapas workers.
From Dianne Webster’s statement
They left the apartment around 20:45 and was accompanied by his son and daughter, they went to join the rest of the restaurant group “TAPAS”. At dinner, among other friends, the couple was McCann. To our question, the reporting tells us that since her daughter had an intercom to hear if the children were screaming or crying if nobody was never going to check on the spot. However, she reported that both Kate Gerald, went on several occasions, and on a regular basis, as well as other couples, check if children were going well. At one of these checks, Kate has returned, scared and nervous, even panicked, saying the restaurant that Madeleine had disappeared.
NO MENTION OF JANE CHECKING, OR A SICK CHILD
From Fiona Payne’s statement
Then she returned to the apartment and has done some household chores and she was released worm 20h45 accompanied by her mother and her husband went to the restaurant “Tapas” rejoin the rest of the group. Among the group members, the dinner was the couple McCann.
The reporting indicates that Kate and Gerry, were repeatedly with regularity, as well as other couples, until the club to verify if children were going well. During one of these verification, Kate came back scared and very nervous, even panicked, and she announced that Madeleine had disappeared.
NO MENTION OF JANE CHECKING, OR A SICK CHILD
SO FAR SO GOOD, BUT…
From David Payne’s Statement
In response to our question, the reporter said that during all dinners, it would never went to his apartment or a group of apartments, insofar as it has an “intercom” that ranges from the apartment until restaurant. The remaining elements of the group went, at random, every 20 minutes, their apartments to check if their respective children were in the process of sleep.
Regarding the night yesterday, he said that he, his wife and stepmother are parking at the restaurant around 20h55. According to recall that, their arrived, all group members were present with the exception of children who were in bed. During the evening, Gerry, Jane and Matthew went, alternately, to the rooms of children to ensure they were sleeping. He thinks they are physically entered in the apartments. He did recall more the order in which they went to see the children.
AH, NOW JANE DID LEAVE THE TABLE, ALTHOUGH DAVID DOESN’T MENTION RUSSELL’S ABSENCE!
A case of pennies dropping perhaps??

Esplendor de la forma gives the text of the MCs’s interview.
“Q - ¿Te ha hecho cambiar la manera de actuar frente a Sean y Amelie?
Gerry - Estamos más protectores y sentimos menos confianza. Nunca hemos dejado solos a nuestros hijos de nuevo, y muchas familias nunca lo harán debido a nosotros.
Kate - Ahora pensamos en todo lo que puede suceder, sobre los depredadores, secuestradores ”
“Did it make you change your ways with Sean and Amelie?”
Gerry : “We are more protective, and less trustful. We never leave our children alone again, and many families never do it, due to us”. Kate : “Now we think of all that could happen, predators, abductors”.

What a waste of time some people are and space and energy and everything woof woof
September 6th, 2008 at 9:19 pm
Quote from today’s Telegraph article:
@
Mr Amaral, who has now retired from Portugal’s Judicial Police investigation force, says in the El Mundo newspaper: “The Portuguese police, like the British [police], and also the prosecutor, who has now changed his opinion, thought the same. We are talking of a death involving third parties, not of homicide.”
@
Anyone else see this - the prosecutor (according to Amaral) has changed his mind? Clouseau you may wish to refer to this in your fax.

Sure hope some site does, I wouldn’t miss it on a bet!
