Many thanks to all for comments and follow-up after I had first written.

There is little doubt that a McCain-Palin administration spawned by racial hatred will increase the racial divide with congress split down the middle, legislation mired in controversy and financial chaos. Americans will have few friends abroad - indeed, there will be renewal of old enmities with a heavily armed Russia and an economically resurgent China.

An increasingly sophisticated terrorist network loyal to Osama bin Laden (note that he has not been betrayed despite the huge bounty on his head) will take their time to penetrate US defences with "dirty" bombs in the heartland.

In short, Americans will have blown their last chance in a generation to restore peace at home and good-will internationally.

Charmaine is right, "hidden racism" will play a large part in the American elections.

On hearing about Obama's win over Clinton in the Democratic primaries, Gov. Palin made this comment (not denied or dignified by her): "I see that Sambo has beaten the Bitch."

Not to be out-done in the weirdo contest , McCain gave an explanation for "Chelsea Clinton being so ugly - her father is the former US Attorney General!"

Under President Obama, change for the better will start at the bottom rung and go up.
Under McCain-Palin, prejudices based on gender, looks and race will become ingrained and irreversible by example starting at the top.

Do you have any sources for that?

I work for the USAF on Diego Garcia, part of the Chagos Archipelago which has been converted into an air-naval base.

Friends and I are interested in the media controversy about which Presidential candidate is "distorting facts" about whom cf. link
http://www.factcheck.org/elections-2008/mccain-palin_distorts_our_finding.html

We look forward an Obama Presidency where there is no irrelevant gossip or diversion from serious matters which affect American citizens at home and abroad.

Thanks dozy........Have just seen the televised Forum at Columbia University where both GOP and Democratic candidates were questioned. I was impressed by Sen. Obama's plan of encouraging more young Americans to join the Peace Corps and other ways of making central government "cool" i.e. attuned to the needs of all Americans regardless of political affiliation, gender or ethnic origin.

McCain admirers seem to avoid serious discussion about the issues, concentrating instead on rumour-mongering. While playing Scrabble on line, one opponent said the Illinois Senator used to be a "commie" in Hawaii! I get the feeling that overt & covert racial prejudice will take an ugly turn for the worse as election day approaches.

As an Australian, I'm not sure I agree with Adam and Dai.

The Governor of Alaska appears to have a special rapport with God, having prayed for His will to be done in Iraq. Again, when fellow Republican Ike runs amok on the mainland, who better than the "maverick team" to bring him into line? Truly an example of expertise both in foreign and domestic affairs.

American voters may well ask themselves: with leaders like this, who needs enemies?

Right on, Adam Sawyer! As a Welshman, I find the sport of shooting animals particularly abhorrent. However, no worries for Gov. Palin about journalists and lawyers descending on Alaska "like wolves." To her, not only the moose and polar bear but also the wolf is fair game.

As for McCain's new game plan, he is a "maverick about to shake up Washington." Poor Obama is even cheated of change.

Fans should never boo a college athlete like they did Daniel Evans at the N.C. State-William & Mary game last Saturday. This student-athlete is not getting paid. Daniel Evans loves this University and yet he may be not playing his best right now, but he is still a WOLFPACKER to the bone."Doug would also like to point out that his daughter, Kimber, is in the photography business. Check out her web site.

We in Britain are appalled by the Republican ticket. McCain cheats on first wife, calls second wife a trollop (& worse), chooses mate on a whim who turns out to have cheated on travel expenses. Now, we hear the squeal of stuck pigs.

As the Democratic candidate said: "Enough of this. Let's get to the real issues of the war, energy, economy, health etc. and have a serious debate."

All Out Wittering, the new event scheduled for the 2012 Olympics, here in rainy London.

Not, of course, that it will be raining in 2012; Boris will have erected an umbrella over the entire capital, thus enabling us to compete on equal terms with all those people who never wasted their wittering on the weather...
