I would think a woman will be able to make her own decisions on whether or not she can take care of a baby with “genetic abnormalities”. It was her choice to carry that baby full term and be a mother to him. She figured she was physcially, mentally, financially capable. If a woman will not be able to support a child with Downs, and knowing prior to his or her birth that the baby has abnormalities, its her choice to carry that child or not. Who gives this “Dr” the right to say that she should have aborted the child??? Palin or any other women who has made the same choice as her, did not ask her to carry the baby or take care of that child in any way. Why can’t he have the same chance at life like hundreds and thousands of other children and adults with Downs?? People with Downs can still perform certain jobs in the society and live their own lives. We have all seen them do it. Say if the time came when we are able to find out if children have autism in the womb, should we abort 1 out of 150 babies in the world? As an ObGyn she should be more understanding to why a woman chooses the way she does, and do not comment on her choices. After all, it is HER baby, not this doctors.

Given some traits can’t be detected until the foetus is about 30 years old eg Hitler and other mass murderers, and just look at the detrimental effect he had on the world , could one ask just what harm can a Downs’ victim do? Most people who have a family member affected by the syndrome just say how loving they are.
