That’s got to have hurt him, despite his claims that it didn’t. Metal palings (oh, god, I know fencing terminology…quite sad, but I was just one of the Morlocks who dug the holes) like those are usually weather-treated by galvanising with zinc. If you’re building them you are always advised to wear gloves because it is an irritant at best and quite corrosive at worst - and it itches like a bugger. Pile cream? He’ll need industrial strength!
