HAVING read “the heartbreaking TRUTH that destroys the lies of Portuguese police”, the oh-so-caring News of The World tells its readers:
“We today offer Kate our immediate and sincere apologies.”
No need, surely..?
The News of the World only published extracts from Kate McCann’s private diary because it cares. It wants to help. It has investigated the case of her daughter’s vanishing and found that the Portuguese police are bungling and to blame.
Yeah, those sicko coppers like Goncalo Amaral who seek to profit from the McCanns agony by publishing books. Not sure how much Amaral’s book costs, but the NOTW is under a pound.
Says the paper:
“We published the extracts in the belief held in good faith that we had Kate’s permission to do so.”
Did the caring NOTW ask Kate McCann to publish extracts from her diary, or just think she would agree to it?
The extracts also appeared in The Sun, the NOTW’s sister paper. How did the paper come by them? A police leak? How the papers hate those:

“Belief”. Yeah, not fact, just an educated hunch…
That apology in full:
Last week we published extracts from Kate McCann’s diaries and explained in the article that we were doing so to “nail the lies” about Kate created by selective leaking from the diaries by Portuguese police.
No, not to make easy headlines, to keep the story alive and sell more newspapers (surely to keep Our Maddie in the public eye? - Ed).
We published the extracts in the belief held in good faith that we had Kate’s permission to do so. It is now clear that our belief was misplaced, and that in fact Kate neither approved of nor knew that the extracts were to be published.
Misplaced. Not wrong…
Upon learning of our error we immediately removed the extracts from our website and we today offer Kate our immediate and sincere apologies. We have agreed to make a donation to be used in the search for Madeleine. The News of the World remains wholly supportive of the McCanns and their continuing campaign to find their daughter.
Make a donation, or be sued, perhaps…

Marie Nicholas - I would be quite happy for the McCanns to be charged with child neglect and found guilty. I would be quite happy for them to be incarcerated. Boiled in oil or hanged. You choose. I don’t care about them. I care about what’s happened to Madeleine. From a caring point of view and a “detective” point of view.
I just want a clear definition to be made between neglect and the disappearance of the poor child. They are two crimes. Different. Maybe, but not necessarily, perpetrated by the same person.
I feel it is the confusion of people who are so angry with the neglect issue that they are wrongly (or rightly) blurring over into the disappearance issue.

I said it many times, and I mean it, I couldn’t care less about the McCanns. I really don’t think the date when they lost their arguido status has any relevance to their daughter’s fate. It is a detail, compared to the disappearance of the child, and what may have happened to her. Being arguido or not didn’t change one iota to the way they looked for her, as their arguido status didn’t block them from searching for her anyway.
For some reasons, I hate children being mistreated, I deeply feel for all the living creatures whose life depends on someone unworthy of such a responsibility. In order to make sure the least possible number of children will be mistreated, or put in harm’s way, I want it to be recognised by laws and authorities that children should be given the entire security they are entitled to. Especially in our times when people have children only if they want to, at least in the western world, their parents shouldn’t have them and play with their lives - willingly or not, I don’t care, the problem of the amount of their responsibility being for the judges and the jurys. If half or more of the population pities the McCanns rather than their daughter, and don’t think there is something really wrong when G.McC calmly declares that what they did, any reasonable parent would do, well then, according to me, our society is in trouble. The family, and the way the children are brought up in the family, is what makes our societies decent.
The date the McCs stopped being arguidos is only relevant for people who identify to them rather than to the victim, but as far as I am concerned I find it utterly strange to put that date on the same level as the little girl’s disappearance. I am a bit surprised at the people’s need for idols, and still more at their choice of idols…, but my concern is for people suffering in the hands of people who misuse their power, whether they are nasty or simply irresponsible.

Bill Henderson surprised everyone by announcing his resignation. He
retired at the end of August, a few days before took place the police
interviews that ended with the McCanns getting the arguido status.
After their departure, Celia Edwards became the UK consul for the Algarve.
She accompanied Kate and Gerry McCann during their interviews with the PJ
in September 2007.

Bill Henderson, British Consul, retired from his diplomatic post in Portugal,
and went back to the UK in August.
