Joe Biden Televises Roosevelt’s Great Depression
JOE Biden watches Roosevelt on Presdient Hoover’s TV:
“When the stock market crashed, Franklin Roosevelt got on the television and didn’t just talk about the princes of greed,” Biden told Couric. “He said, ‘Look, here’s what happened.’”
As Reason’s Jesse Walker footnotes offer:
“And if you owned an experimental TV set in 1929, you would have seen him. And you would have said to yourself, ‘Who is that guy? What happened to President Hoover?’”
Joe Biden is Neil Kinnock…

Furthermore, the second “crash” is not as well known…why would Biden refer to the not as well-known “crash” when addressing the public? There is no excuse for that statement, and trying to rationalize what he “meant” is futile.

It is VERY clear which “stage” of the Great Depression Biden is referencing….”WHEN THE STOCK MARKET CRASHED” The Stock Market crashed in 1929. In 1929, there were no televisions. In 1929, HERBERT HOOVER was president. FDR wasn’t president until 1932. And for the record, his policies didn’t get us out of the Great Depression…WWII did.

Why didn’t this get more coverage? We had to hear about lipstick and pigs for, like, 2 weeks. This one is way worse.
And please don’t make excuses that he meant radio and meant 1933, blah, blah! He said stock market, he said television, and he was wrong. FDR wouldn’t have regularly appeared on TV if it were around anyway. It might have exposed his polio. Plus, I’d like to add that there are some historians that fault FDR with prolonging the depression. Just throwing that out there.
Problem is Joe the Politician shoots first, then thinks. If he thinks at all, that is. Don’t we have someone in office like that already?

It is unclear which stage of the Great Depression Biden was referring to. There was an initial event in 1929 which went cataclysmic in 1933. Famously, President Hoover failed to stop the economic collapse because he was clinging to absurd free-market, low intervention, pro-ultra-wealthy, right-wing economics. Because the right-wing messed up the economy, liberal-leaning Democrats were in power during the subsequent bad years, and created wealth through direct support for the middle-class, by-passing banks and millionaires.
Hoover gave no re-assuring radio chats. Roosevelt was famous for them. His calm yet realistic radio speeches were widely credited with restoring hope in the American System. In context, Biden is clearly referring to the second crash in 1933. There was a second crash then. Look it up.
If you choose to insist that Biden meant the first crash just so you can ‘woot’ at them and ‘pwn’ them, you should go back to playing FPSs and MMORPGs and leave ploitics to the bog kids.

Can’t we just agree that they are both idiots? Palin and Biden are both unfit to be second in the chain of command

Lawl Victoria J. you just got owned…but seriously it really was President Hoover. I just looked it up and I cant believe anyone would think it was Roosevelt.

What is upsetting is the very bias, no, extremely bias CNN not mentioning Biden’s flop. I even think Cambell Brown is actually jealous of Palin. Watch her if you can stomach it, so obvious. Had Sarah Palin made this STUPID blunder every liberal station and late night show host would have crucified her. Watch a President Roosevelt and on a television in 1929? What a fool.
I just don’t get what people see in these two. Obama, two books and not one piece of legislation worth mentioning. I can understand African American buying anything Obama says, but the Hispanics are too.

I agree that Biden is a moron and that he spoke WAY to fast for his brain to catch up, but why does everyone have to name call everyone else? Its the one thing I HATE about politics. Talk about the positives of each person, or if you’re the person talk about your positives not the other guys negatives. It shows intelect if you dont need to bash on the other guy.

Victoria J-… you obviously need to pick up a history text book! Joe Biden was clearly reffering to the first crash of the great deppression… and that was Hoover in 1929 who addressed America not Roosevelt about the financial collapse… Roosevelt didn’t take office until 1932.
.. Joe Biden is an idiot! … and for the record, Roosevelt didn’t speek to the nation until 1933! Now YOU GO LOOK IT UP!
Not smarter than a 5th grader, are ya?

Roosevelt is INDEED the one who in March of 1933 when our banking system collapsed reached out to the public on RADIO and told the people “the only thing we have to fear is fear itself” . GO LOOK IT UP! I really don’t care if Biden said TV and meant radio, but I do care that you don’t know it was indeed ROOSEVELT who spoke to the nation.
