Turner Prize 2008 Socks It To Art Buffs

WHAT’S the Turner Prize all about then? Are Cathy Wilkes, Goshka Macuga, Mark Leckey, and Runa Islam three women and a man trying to win a prize, or are they three women and man trying not to win a prize? Their surnames are listed in Reverse alphabetical order, which might mean something.

Anorak has once again entered Vomit In Sock, our installation that grows with the times and reflects the changing diet of the modern British palate: see Vomit In Leg Warmer (1983); Vomit In Leggings (1990); and Vomit In Crocs (work in progress).

The Telegraph says Runa Islam’s work, ‘Be The First To see What You see As You see It’, is a film in which a woman throws pieces of crockery to the floor. Passing Greeks may mistake this for a wedding video and find cause to stamp a foot and pin money to the screen; an interactivity welcomed by the artist.

Cathy Wilkes has created a sculpture that uses items from her home: empty breakfast bowls and a mannequin sat on a toilet. The mannequin wears tights, which we believe to be very 1956 (see Vomit In Tights).

Goshka Macuga is a “cultural anthropologist”. Her wooden trees look like the items amateur gardeners would send into That’s Life. There’s a tree running. There’s tree standing still. There’s a carrot masturbating into a bowl of chick peas.

Mark Leckey has made a film. It’s 40 minutes long. Take long a sock in case you need to sneeze into something
