Madeleine McCann: An Apology For Journalism, Desmond’s Reputation And Greenslade Scores
MADDIE WATCH - Anorak’s at-a-glance guide to press coverage of Madeleine McCann, Kate McCann and Gerry McCann
DAILY STAR: “’THE TAPAS SEVEN‘” - AN APOLOGY
The Sangria Seven, surely. Or the Tapas 9 (what happened to them?). But what of this latest apology? Ahem..:
In articles published in September and November last year we suggested that the holiday companions of Kate and Gerry McCann might have covered up the true facts concerning Madeleine McCann’s disappearance and/or misled the authorities investigating her disappearance.
Yes…
We also suggested that the McCanns’ friends had been identified as potential suspects.
And…
We now accept that these suggestions should never have been made and were completely untrue.
The Star is printed in Portuguese…
We apologise to Jane Tanner, Russell O’Brien, Fiona Payne, David Payne, Matthew Oldfield, Rachael Oldfield and Diane Webster to whom we have agreed to pay substantial damages which they will be donating to the Find Madeleine Fund.
Ah, yes, another donation. Well, at least the cash will keep the story going;, and the Express in news, and robots…
TIMES: “Express group to pay McCann friends damages”
How much?
Friends of Madeleine McCann’s parents are expected to accept libel damages of £375,000 today.
Express Newspapers has previously paid damages of £550,000 to Mr and Mrs McCann, from Rothley, Leicestershire. The group and other newspapers also paid more than £600,000 to Robert Murat, a former official suspect, and two other people.
Anorak broke that story. And what of the “other newspapers”, like the Times’ sister organs, the Sun and the News of the World. Why not mention them by name?
THE GUARDIAN: “Desmond’s papers back in court to apologise for more shoddy journalism”
It’s Roy Greenslade, fearless repeorting on bad jouslism. No, not the Maddy keywords. No, not the BNP adverts. The Express:
It is a further nail in the coffin of the reputation of the Daily Express and its pornographer owner, Richard Desmond.
Reputation? Does he care? And what fot Desmond’s newspapers? They might be full of bollocks, but people still read them, or at least they look at the pictures:
Guardian circulation: 348,878
Daily Express circualtion: 739,025
Daily Star circulation: 731,433
And you thought no-one read the Express…
Madeleine McCann: A child is missing, still missing. After a year and half of reporting, there are no suspects. The press has uncovered not a single lead. And the parents continue to search for their daughter…

Ah! Stunned into awed silence I see! Now you all think I am convinced the McCanns had nothing to do with the disappearance of their daughter. Or you think I’m the McCanns or their best friends blah blah. Nope, none of that.
After their daughter went missing, there is nothing in their behaviour that I find odd. For people like them it strikes me as completely normal and effective. Calling for the Priest also is normal for them on a human level because you always find your religion when you are in a tight spot.
But I am not entirely happy about the dogs. I can think of a reason or two why they would smell cadavar if there had been no body, but not 100% happy about that, no. It’s niggling.

ooh i will

I am so patient. Churchill was an analogy. I am saying the McCanns are Admin types. When Madeleine went missing they cound themselves in a position where they could rush about looking for Madeleine (foot soldiers) or they could direct operations (Admin). Running true to form they chose Admin. The right choice for them. They oversaw the searches. Rather than waste time and effort looking for a child who was God Knows where. Jane Tanner asked “Have the borders been closed”. Already they were thinking globally.
I was asked “are you a Chief or an Indian”. I don’t run with the hairs or the hounds. When I said my late lamented father was a Chief, I meant he was in an Admin. He started life very poor, turned to engineering and became a member of the board of an engineering complany. So he was Admin. My husband also was very poor and fatherless and did many lowly jobs before becoming Admin in a large company. These are people who have done the footwork, know what it’s like and know what needs to be done. They are the best type of Admin.
This is my final word on this particular matter.
Thank you Totje for your search. That sighting DID interest me. It sounded the most likely.

IMO the independent did some quite “unbiased” stuff, it seemed to be very reluctantly though ? and decidedly behind the herd ?
I can’t believe you stayed up all F’ing night with a bottle of Bailey’s just to get Frist on Anorak

No pound unburned………… Sam ? inspired

How is it that gossip in the neswpapers sabotaged attempts to search for M and was unhelpful - but the Tapastwats not doing a reconstruction was not unhelpful at all?

They are Admin types. Not foot soldiers. Imagine Winston Churchill in the 2nd World War, he didn’t actually fight. Nor was he one of those people who moved little flags around on maps. He had an overall picture of what needed to be done and delegated to people who delegated in their turn. If he had marched off with a gun to take on the Germans himself it would have been ridiculous.
**************************************
Ridiculous ?? Ludicrous surely LOL
Hmmmmm! Churchill ? bad example, lets see there’s “THE live bait squadron” “Antwerp” and “Gallipoli” for starters ? I mean he did give us the same two finger salute as the Tapas crew I’ll grant you, but we always have the extended middle finger to fall back on, good for the environment you know (Uses less energy).
Now you could have mentioned a courageous and indeed famous Lieutenant Colonel from the Falklands war, he believed in leading from the front. I can’t see him leaving Portugal without kicking a few doors in, twisting the arms of a few nonces and generally hand grenading several tons of stones to unturn them, thus setting a good example for the rest of us, know what I mean ?
October 17th, 2008 at 2:35 am
eww, it’s sufaced again. if i write fuck wit an thousand times do you think it’ll piss of again ?
October 17th, 2008 at 2:32 am
coco, i have a popcorn making machine but i’m too lazy to turn it on, i usually get that butterkisst brand. i don’t like honey. i have a bit of a treat atm, a very good speyside whiskey which i’m sipping to make last, and a ciggerette, i should go to bed.
October 17th, 2008 at 2:27 am
I’m not at all pissed off–just really, REALLY bored. With you, I mean. As a matter of fact, I think I’m about five thousand “fuck-wits” and strange, lame doll stories over my threshold.
October 17th, 2008 at 2:20 am
Sam - Are you eating home-made popcorn? I love Butterkist and every now and then I make my own - but I am not very good at it and I spend a long time scratching the sticky bits off the side of the bowl.
I like honey on my popcorn - and my cats go mad for it.

‘goodness, does it creep out of the woodwork everytime it’s name is mentioned ?’
………………………………………………………….
Every time Sam - every fucking time. She comes on here and says the same thing - and gets reallly pissed off if nobody agrees with her.
If I was her - I would keep my trap shut and watch other people. I did that for months before I joined Anorak.
I have learned a lot from reading all your posts - but PammyWammy is too fucking clever to squash any more learning into her brain - because it’s completely full - of sh*te! lol
October 17th, 2008 at 2:14 am
oh crap, i’ve run out of popcorn, isn’t that typical.
October 17th, 2008 at 2:11 am
Oh Pam Full of Piss of Wind - and so little wit and humour.
I am sick of giving you love and support when you behave like a Numpty!
Why do you have to have the last word - with somebody like me - who will wipe the floor with you and leave you feeling like a raggy mop?
If you have a masochistic streak I am happy to talk about it with you - but I hate always being the child and you being the grown-up all the time.
Shall I be teacher?
I bet you have not flattened any grass in your time have you.
I suspect that not many men wanted to date you.
I reckon that you blamed this on your cleverness - but really it was because you are very boring and bland.
October 17th, 2008 at 2:10 am
goodness, does it creep out of the woodwork everytime it’s name is mentioned ?
October 17th, 2008 at 2:08 am
coco, star of me life, or this evening anyway
October 17th, 2008 at 2:03 am
Sure, why not? At worst, your latest dribble is no less true than your usual BS.
October 17th, 2008 at 1:58 am
With people like Wotcha knocking about it’s no wonder there is so much prejudice about women going into journalism and politics.
Bake a cake or clean yur stairs Wotcha - this is no place for you. This is a place for intelligent, witty and dotty people not fucking old bags who think they are middle-class because they got a mortgage!
Fuck off with your bollocks and tell your parents off for sending you to the wong school!
Good grief! Why must England tremble?

‘No I wasn’t “on a ride”. I really think the negativity has been detrimental and demoralising to the McCanns and they have had to keep going in spite of it. I think everybody’s efforts and intellect should have been focussed on finding this little girl, whatever happened to her and whoever did it. The sheer force of negativity has been unhelpful and unchristian.’
The above sh*te and the other sh*te about chiefs and Indians is possibly some of the most incomprensible twaddle I have read on here to date.
Is it me or this pillock a complete fucking idiot or what?
Dad was a chief and hubby a chief????
There is a most unsuitable word for a twat like this - but I will spare the blushes of the decent readers!
What a supercilious bitch this is!
And PammyWammy - I am a lot more cleverer wiv words than wot you are - coz at least people understand what I am on about - which is what communicating is all about.
Although you are probably old enogh to be my Grandmother and I should have a bit of respect for your age - I just want you to know that you are a very sick and dried up Old Hag.
I dedicated my first post to you this morning - you ungrateful Hag!
October 17th, 2008 at 1:41 am
and a little less greedy perhaps. i think one of the reasons it doesn’t work is because some think an hour of their time is worth more than an hour of my time. i don’t know why they think that but they do.
