In articles published in September and November last year we suggested that the holiday companions of Kate and Gerry McCann might have covered up the true facts concerning Madeleine McCann’s disappearance and/or misled the authorities investigating her disappearance.
Yes…
We also suggested that the McCanns’ friends had been identified as potential suspects.
And…
We now accept that these suggestions should never have been made and were completely untrue.

We apologise to Jane Tanner, Russell O’Brien, Fiona Payne, David Payne, Matthew Oldfield, Rachael Oldfield and Diane Webster to whom we have agreed to pay substantial damages which they will be donating to the Find Madeleine Fund.

How much?
Friends of Madeleine McCann’s parents are expected to accept libel damages of £375,000 today.
Express Newspapers has previously paid damages of £550,000 to Mr and Mrs McCann, from Rothley, Leicestershire. The group and other newspapers also paid more than £600,000 to Robert Murat, a former official suspect, and two other people.
Anorak broke that story. And what of the “other newspapers”, like the Times’ sister organs, the Sun and the News of the World. Why not mention them by name?

brandon, you’re not suggesting they are profiting from all this are you ? i mean, how could they be if all the money goes into the fund to find madeleine ? though exactly how they want to do that considering they’ve disengaged the detectives, haven’t returned to pdl, have refused a reconstruction and neglected to ask for the files to be reopened and failed to ask the british police to take up the case, i’ve no idea.

Maybe O”Brien didn”t have some kind of breakdown maybe he is just a regular Guy
who didn”t want to be paraded in Public, maybe he knows what happened to Madeleine
and wants nothing to do with the other Tapas, we just don”t know.
What I find incredible is the way the McCann team have been able to manipulate the
Media to the extent that it”s all become the Gospel according to the McCanns and don”t
you dare print otherwise.
That”s why I think there are other Forces at work and the McCanns too are being
manipulated.

Apparently Russell O”Brien has/had been off work for several months after the PDL
Holiday, maybe he is just a more sensitive person than the others and took Madeleine”s disappearance very badly.
It”s like the Tapas 6 have been paraded out to serve some other purpose and will now
go back into their burrows.

catalina, please note i’m not here and am addressing the tons of ironing and laundry i have, well, to answer your question, no, no-one should really give you a hard time about losing your daughter when in a strange country and on holiday and you didn’t use any of the creche facilities available .
it’s perfectly understandable that you didn’t want to trust your precious little ones in the evening to the same strangers you left them with all day and every day otherwise and chose to leave them in an at risk situation instead, as doctors, of course, know how to manage and asses risk.
and so, presumably, those with an eight month old baby and a baby listener on the table had worked out that should they hear their child choke there’d be enough time to sprint the whole, what 600 yrds around the block and up the stairs and unlock the door and get there just in time to do the heimlich manouver. so that’s okay then. perfectly reasonable behaviour, and, as you note, it’s what all do really.

I would say Russell O’Brien’s absence today is worthy of further note. After all:
1. He was one of the seven Claimants.
2. The other six turned up. Remember, K&G didn’t appear at the court when they got their Express payout - and indeed there was no obligation on them to do so, because the case had settled and their lawyers were there. So the “six of the seven” must have been advised to attend today, I would guess CM was one of the people who advised them to do so.
3. If I am right about that, then for some reason Russell did not follow that advice.
4. If there had been an easily understandable reason for this, CM could easily have explained so, eg “Russell couldn’t be here today due to an emergency at the establishment where he works.” or whatever.
So, as usual, a bit of scope for speculation.

I was reading the other day the Blackwatch blog and it is very interesting. He is a very
clued up guy and suggests the Madeleine McCann case was secondary. Control Risk
who were employed to search for Madeleine actually used the search in Morocco for
Political reasons. You”ll have to find the site and read for yourself because anything else I say will be moderated, but his theory does make sense, at least more than we
are getting now.!!!!!

I know, Matt, it’s so frustrating, isn’t it? I find the silence extremely sinister. Some very heavy pressure is being exerted on the media from somebody high up, IMO, but I’m puzzled as to what it could be and why. Even if someone tried to make the true information known, it would undoubtedly be sabotaged or hushed-up. Perhaps the answer would be to take over several television stations simultaneously and start broadcasting the material which, for some reason, is being kept from the British public!

The whole scenario is wierd, and I”m sure there is a hidden agenda. When Clarrie
was being interviewed earlier and was ranting on about the accusations against the
Tapas 7, Anna Botting suggested that the U.K. Press had very little access to
information ( a veiled criticsm I thought) but CM as usual brushed this aside.

I wouldask the Tapas 7
1. Why have you never been photograped or interviewed before now?
2. If you genuinely believe Madeleine is still alive, why didn”t you agree to attend a
recon?
3. Silva Batista, a Manager at OC, in her statement says when she went to 5a to see
if she could help, you were all walking from room to room talking on your mobiles,
would you agree that was hardly the action of a dear child you knew so well ?
