How much?
Friends of Madeleine McCann’s parents are expected to accept libel damages of £375,000 today.
Express Newspapers has previously paid damages of £550,000 to Mr and Mrs McCann, from Rothley, Leicestershire. The group and other newspapers also paid more than £600,000 to Robert Murat, a former official suspect, and two other people.
Anorak broke that story. And what of the “other newspapers”, like the Times’ sister organs, the Sun and the News of the World. Why not mention them by name?

May be it’s because they want to set an example and because the Express group was making more libellous statements as the other papers? Or may be other papers said something like “according to 24 horas X alledgedly killed Y and Z helped him/her …..”.
But who knows, may be other papers are sued too but separately and after they filed a complaint about the Express Group? I can’t find the right expression [tired, long day at work etc.] but I mean, like when you do a project, first do a try-out and if that works, roll out the concept.

Re Watcher’s question. As far as I know there’s been no further news about that sighting. If I’m not mistaken the papers didn’t take it as a really serious lead. I’ll try to find the latest articles about it. Madeleine is hardly mentioned in the papers anymore over here.

Don”t know if you are checking other forums, but youknowwho posted a Spudgun
lengthy report suggesting that a reputable organisation is investigating the McCann
case, good News if it happens, maybe a more balanced account.
I think it is still there if you havn”t seen it. Worth a read.

Don”t you ever wonder why it is only the Express Newspapers who keep getting sued.
At the time, all the U.K. Press was using 24 horas et al for info, since they were not
allowed to interview anyone themselves, so why not other Newspapers and Magazines ?

Watcher was wondering if anything further came of the the sighting in Amsterdam with the little girl in the shop who said she had been taken from her mummy while on holiday.
There has been no further mention of it in english language sources, is there anything about it on dutch ones?

Ah but Jodocus you’re wrong. It was a couple of people who felt hurt and slandered by some nasty stories in the papers. They sued them and they got an excuse as well as some money. It proofs even papers have to show some responsability in what they print.
Now if they really donate the money to the Find Madeleine Fund, that shows they care about to try to find out what happened to the child….

If I had received loads of dosh legitimately, for a time when I was truely libelled in the press, and I was completely innocent of any wrongdoing, including keeping secrets, I know I wouldn’t donate the dosh to a fund that is doing nothing constructive, and doesn’t need topping up anyway - because ultra rich people are footing any bills - oh no!!!. I would keep the dosh myself, to properly compensate me for the stress I had gone through, and in doing so, I would have shown the world that I properly deserved the money, and wasn’t ashamed to keep it. Please note that I am not referring to anyone in particular here and any similarities to real life people are purely coincidental and errrrr whoosh, I’m off.

What is the fuck wit, why are many making bad jokes and things on a place about a poor little child, why do people not ask more questions as to why the Portuguese have kept back 40,000 pages of information, Rene Hasee did not have the publicity that the disappearance of Madeleine has had, but maybe one day the truth will be made about both cases. I and others believe they may be linked, what do the Portuguese keep from us, that is the question I ask.
