An Inconvenient Truth: Educator Al Gore Gets It Wrong
AN Inconvenient Truth, Al Gore’s homage to powerpoint presentations, has been held up as the wake-up call to the world. Global warming is coming. Have you seen the film? The camera doesn’t lie. Fact!
But before you get your tickets for Live Earth and buy a hemp T-shirt for Gaia, read this:
First it was his world history class. Then he saw it in his economics class. And his world issues class. And his environment class. In total, 18-year-old McKenzie, a Northern Ontario high schooler, says he has had the film An Inconvenient Truth shown to him by four different teachers this year…
But Mr. Gore’s filmed climate-change lecture is showing up in classrooms across Canada, frequently unaccompanied by critical analysis or a discussion of competing theories. “One of the teachers at my kid’s school showed it and he even said ahead of time, ‘There is some propaganda in this,’ ” says Tim Patterson, a Carleton University earth sciences professor. “I said to him, ‘You even knew this was a propaganda film, and you still showed it in your classroom?’ ” The weirdest part: It was the gym teacher.
Are teachers just sticking on a video so they can nip out for a crafty smoke? And now Al Gore is accepted dogma, will the cool kids rebel and take to burning fossil fuel for fun?
In addition to a companion book written for school-aged children, producers have created a lesson plan, “AIT in the Classroom,” for teachers to download.
On a clockwork, green computer…

Subj: Energy conservation
Dear Al Gore:
For many years I have been a somewhat unsuccessful environmentalist going back to the first OPEC oil embargo of the 70s.
To get to the chaff, I have proposed what I call a National Energy lifeline to cover all hydrocarbon usages primarily from heating oil, gasoline, and electrical usage. Letters to my two CA state senators produced no response. I am hoping that this letter will provoke some thoughts to this subject and that your National and Global influence will have some impact.
Below is the attachment to the letter that was sent to my State Senators Boxer and Feinstein.
Thank you for your consideration.

PS: Incrementally increase the cost of hydrocarbon energy but provide a National Energy lifeline to help offset the financial burden of normal energy usage. This will:
1. Provide an awareness of energy use
2. Increase the cost to high-energy users beyond the lifeline.
3. Increase the incentive for alternate energy source development
4. Notify the world that we are doing something for energy conservation. This alone may probably bring down the cost of crude.
5. Preserve our present oil reserves for future use e.g.: oil will be required for aircraft use.
6. Accelerate the development of fission energy (atomic plants)
7. Investigate the possibility of harnessing fusion (hydrogen) energy like the French are planning.
8. Use of the 1040 tax form as a method of reimbursement to cover the added cost of the lifeline energy used. Note that this method will weed out many of those who try to avoid taxes
9. Set up a research organization to explore the development and utilization of electrified highways for future travel. E.g.: the process of moving electrical induction.
Consumers have been accustomed to high-energy usage and it will take a long time for them to relinquish this. Again the best way for consumers to create a more sensible energy policy is to increase the cost of energy to them. Our society is dollar driven and in time adjustment to this increased cost will materialize.

What does any of this have to do with Gore getting it wrong?
