With MMR being in the news, I have to say that I am living in an area where a measles outbreak is occurring. In the news we parents who have not given the MMR jabs are being bullied and told that we are bad parents for putting our kids at risk.
Talks of banning our kids from school are going on.
Everyone assumes that parents who have not given the MMR are stupid and uneducated people who are still worried about the autism link scare.
But let me tell you the truth about us parents that did not give the MMR.
Before the autism link was known I blindly took my son to have the MMR jab, like a good little sheepie.
Despite my friends warning me that their kids were getting really bad side effects and their kids getting temperatures I still let him have the jab, putting my faith in my doctor.
Only when something happens to your own kid do you suddenly wake up.
My little boy became ill a few hours after the jab, he had a high temperature, which we expected, but this quickly turned into a high temperature that wouldn't come down with calpol or nurofen, his 40 degree temperature was rising, he was vomiting and had diarrhea. Despite the surgery on the phone telling us this was normal after a jab we took him straight to hospital.
They were very concerned and after a week of illness and lethargy we were told that there was absolutely no chance of the illness being linked to the MMR jab.
Well B@@@**s to that!!!!
He changed in personality to a quieter child and a lot of his friends also became kids with ADH after the jab (also unconnected though we are told).
Anyway, after the autism link scare we tried to get single jabs for the second dose only to be told by our health visitor that she could not help us get them.
After our own research we found a place in England (we live in Wales), but the waiting list was long, the price was high (although that didn't concern us) and the Mumps jab was being blocked by the goverment from coming into the country.
So we are still waiting to get the single jabs and now have a second child also without MMR immunisation.
It angers me to read people banging on about how we are bad parents, we care enough for our kids not to give them a cocktail jab that seems to have worse consequences than getting the measles, mumps or rubella (all of which me and my husband had as a child and never knew of anyone who was affected by it afterwards).
My husband warned me of the dangers of mixing jabs together (he works in genetics) but I convinced him he was wrong, I banged on about how safe injections are and how the goverment loves and cares for us...pah! no more - I am AWAKE!!!!
How many children had side effects like mine that were not reported as the doctors want this MMR jab to be accepted? How many? You cannot answer that question.
We bad parents who stand by whilst our children become pincushions for the goverment, we who have had all the usual jabs, have spoken...we have noticed our friends kids reactions to MMR, we have noticed our kids reactions to MMR and we have spoken....we do not want 3 jabs in one! We do not want the MMR.
We do want to immunise our kids, but we are not the risk takers....we are the good parents, the ones who care enough to realise that risking measles is less of a risk than giving the MMR jab to our kids...although if our voice was heard by the goverment they would realsie that giving us single jabs in our area would mean that these diseases would be erradecated. Give us single jabs or watch as your schools empty - we shall not be bullied into giving the MMR to our kids!

Gee, I can see that it makes you mad that Jenny helped her son. It happened. It's happening for a lot of kids. Not all, but many. My son has autism, and the diet didn't work for him. I still think Jenny is helping thousands of people, I've read her books, and her heart is in the exact right place. The media is in with the pharmaceutical companies that created this HUGE problem. 1 in 6 kids in the U.S. has learning disabilities. Does the media make that out to be a problem? Not that I've noticed. It's ignored. Just like everything else that matters. Watch the news and note how many stories are just filler...total crap that doesn't matter and isn't news.

Have you read Jenny's book? I have, and I was very skeptical at first. But, after reading it I believe that what she did helped her son. I teach children with autism. One of my students just started the diet, and I have seen a TREMENDOUS increase in his vocabulary, and interaction with peers. Do I think it works for everyone? NO! I agree with Grande Finale in that further research must be done. But, you people shouldn't be ignorant to the fact this diet is helping some kids.

It must've been misdiagnosed. Or it's mild enough to improve.

At school we used to be cruel and say that autistic kids were just trying to avoid interacting with their parents (we were being cruel to the parents - not the kids).

Theory is fine but practice is a different matter eg check out how many everyday foods include cassien and whey, both dairy products. Gluten from wheat is also everywhere :(

The National autistic society in the UK is a good reference point. Oh! and there is NO cure for autism !

Gluten and casein-free diet Who could benefit?

Further research is needed in order to establish which individuals with autism are likely to benefit. To date benefits have been reported for individuals with urinary peptide abnormalities. For further information on obtaining testing for urinary peptide abnormalities contact the Autism Research Unit (see contacts section).

I've also heard that the diet helps tremendously in the recovering of autistic children, and more so, that many children who weren't autistic when born, developed it because of allergies to several foods.
