I live in Southwest Florida where there is a trickle of blue surrounded by a sea of red. Although there are many Obama supporters, I stopped canvasing for the campaign after being harassed by McCain supporters 2 weeks ago. All I did was knock on a few doors to ask if people needed a ride to the polls and to give them information about early voting. One man accused me of being with ACORN and started to angrily run after me, as I walked toward my car, so I decided to call it quits (call me chicken) because I am not a strong person. Maybe I’ll make some calls next week from the Obama office. My point is that Ms Todd’s actions were not surprising to me. Many people who call themselves Christians are desperately trying to keep Obama out of the White House by using un-Christian attacks and slander. Ministers are warning parishioners that Obama will bring down our country and destroy Christian values. (as if George Bush hasn’t already done that??)

I’m sure there are lunatics on both sides. But what bothers me the most is how the press handled an “alleged” attack before an investigation proved it was false. Only the responsible reporters mentioned that the police were looking into the assault or that they were suspicious. I actually admit (OMG!) I have a new respect for Michelle Malkin after she said something didn’t smell right.

BTW many people are saying Todd needs help because she is mentally ill. Mental illness is a serious problem and should never be ignored, but our society tends to use it as an excuse for committing crimes. Child molesters are mentally ill too. If someone is depressed and shoots your dog, do you say “Oh, my neighbor is depressed and didn’t know what he was doing.” If she has emotional problems, they should be addressed, but she is also guilty.

Maybe a viable solution for the GOP’s embarrassment would be to have Joe the “plant” plumber and “backward B” Ashley get together as a comedy team….rather like a Saturday-Night-Live skit. McCain’s campaign committee could use a good laugh right about now. Am I the only one who finds it a bit co-incidental that “Joe” could somehow manage to find himself in a face-to-face photo op with BOTH candidates ? You’d have to go to Vegas to get odds on THAT scenario happening without some pretty careful “arrangeing”.
