Japan’s Papers, Doomed But Going Strong, Wishes Washington Post

“JAPAN’S Papers, Doomed but Going Strong…”

That’s the headline in the Washington Post, but I detect a whiff of anxiety from the reporter; perhaps it’s simple envy of the fact that none of the Japanese press are being sacked, unlike, for example, writers on the Washington Post.

Alternatively it’s whistling in the dark, hopefully claiming that come 2050 Japan’s economic power will wither away, along with the Japanese newspaper reading population; presumably the article was written before the East met the East today, and Japan decided to sink its differences with China in a united move to save the world by buying it up.

These are hard times for journalists seeking innocuous topics which do not involve people wondering just what value the traditional press has, if it could be so blindsided by the financial institutions that it completely failed to spot the blindingly obvious.

Looks like the Washington Post lucked out again…
