If Obama’s Media Wins, Democracy Loses
MICHAEL Malone sees the media bias for Obama and how in the end, when the media is so partisan, no-one wins:
(N)othing , nothing I’ve seen has matched the media bias on display in the current presidential campaign… (E)ven Democrats, who have been gloating over the pass—no, make that shameless support—they’ve gotten from the press, are starting to get uncomfortable as they realize that no one wins in the long run when we don’t have a free and fair press…
Now, don’t get me wrong. I’m not one of those people who think the media has been too hard on, say, Republican vice presidential nominee Gov. Sarah Palin… No, what I object to (and I think most other Americans do as well) is the lack of equivalent hardball coverage of the other side—or worse, actively serving as attack dogs for the presidential ticket of Sens. Barack Obama, D-Ill., and Joe Biden, D-Del…
Why, for example to quote the lawyer for Republican presidential nominee Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., haven’t we seen an interview with Sen. Obama’s grad school drug dealer—when we know all about Mrs. McCain’s addiction? Are Bill Ayers and Tony Rezko that hard to interview? All those phony voter registrations that hard to scrutinize? And why are Sen. Biden’s endless gaffes almost always covered up, or rationalized, by the traditional media?
The absolute nadir (though I hate to commit to that, as we still have two weeks before the election) came with Joe the Plumber.
Middle America, even when they didn’t agree with Joe, looked on in horror as the press took apart the private life of an average person who had the temerity to ask a tough question of a presidential candidate. So much for the standing up for the little man. So much for speaking truth to power.
The truthers are out there. Watching…

Any election - be it in the Uk, America or wherever is always about money. Who funded this and who paid for that and who will get what if whoever is elected. It will never change. Look at the news in recent days about the Russian billionaire (or millionaire - who’s counting ?) and the Conservative party. The root of all evil is money. BUT - without it, we are sunk and without it - the Government of the day cannot survive. I am reluctant to pay my TV licence to the BBC in the light of the recent issues - but they got you over a barrel - if you want to recieve a TV signal - the BBC can fine you massive sums for not paying. Similar situation with politics. Anyone who makes a reasonable donation - to any major party stands in good stead to be looked after in business. Anyone remember the Sainsbury saga??

I agree, Val.
It ain’t over till it’s over, but I was amused to see that ABC finally decided to take some more money from Obama for a 30 minute programme, only to discover that he’s made other plans.
I hope for Malone’s sake that ABC doesn’t conclude that his comments are less than helpful when it comes to dog eat dog:

I think America is so disillusioned with the way the Banks and Corporations have
screwed them, they are desperate for change and hope Obama will provide it. That has been his rallying cry and if the voting goes the way the pundits predict, he will start off
from a very strong position . I just hope change does happen, not just for the American
people, but for all of us.

Er, yes.
I daresay that he must be even more shocked at the way the media has willingly taken vast sums of money from the Obama campaign in the biggest Presidential campaign spend in history; I wonder why Michael Malone doesn’t mention that at any point in his five page long opinion piece?
Indeed, his denunciation of the true culprits-according to him, the editors- would, surely, have been a little more hard hitting if he’d mentioned the $250 million coming from the Obama coffers into places like ABC.
Could it have something to do with the fact that his pay comes out of that massive media spend?
No, surely not…
