I think that the posts do reveal a very strange view of the world, but it’s one which is very predictable; one moment he’s professing to be shocked and horrified by Sharia law and the next he’s pushing for people to be flogged.

He complains about the way Muslim fundamentalists treat women and then says that the only reason a senior officer would be interested in my welfare would because they want to have sex with me.

If it really is John Oddy and not Rasputin having a larf… & he does resort to knicker comments (like Gandolf does!!!) I don’t think he’s going to have much luck persuading the mainstream public to vote for his fav. Party’s policies.

You really do need to get out a bit more, Cllr John Oddy. It’s been quite a while since they invented aircraft, and ships have been around a great deal longer. You do seem curiously ignorant about a subject you profess to have given much thought to.

I appreciate that you are simply repeating the spiel which presumably works when addressed to stupid and ignorant people, but I am neither stupid nor ignorant.

And assuming that other posters will buy into your ‘They don’t care about the likes of us’ drivel is unwise; some of those posters may come from military families. There are some of those around…

The leaders of our Armed Forces have a very good idea of what sort of dross inhabits the streets; that’s why they don’t want them anywhere near an effective fighting force. Shove the dross into the Armed Services and you very rapidly cease to have an effective fighting force; not a good idea if you need one.

Well, I don’t know about you but the senior officers I have come across seemed to be reasonably interested in my welfare; perhaps you should reconsider your approach.

What relevance does that point have to National Service?

The reality is that modern warfare is complicated; stupid people may be excellent cannon-fodder but there aren’t many wars fought that way any more.

I find it bizarre that people who claim to have the interests of their country at heart should wish to destroy the efficiency of our armed forces; instead of wittering on about National Service you could address yourself to the failure to provide the professionals with decent equipment….

I don’t believe in sadistic punishments - too harsh is as bad as too lax (although I agree that at the moment we can be too lax and too arbitrary).

But the BNP’s authoritarian agenda is impossible to implement without tyranny. People are human and you can’t clean them up and make them behave without frightening them into submission and conformity - and you’d probably turn on each other before you got close to turning on them…

The BNP on the other hand should be criticised. One of their policies is bringing back corperal punishment isn’t it? Is that really forward thinking? What next, public flogging and stoning? It’s almost like they’re jealous of Islam.
