Note the decline in the Labour vote. Is it possible that people are finally waking up. The incredible result, achieved on a 22.1 percent turnout in Thursday’s election, saw Mr Owens (image) cruise to a comfortable win with 279 votes. The second placed candidate was an independent, who polled 141 votes. Next came the Tories, with 119 votes, Labour with 64 votes, UKIP with 24 votes and the Lib-Dems with 23 votes. Section 18 of the original Bill would have allowed trade unions to exclude members of the British National Party and other racists. The Bill that will be presented to MPs tomorrow, however, has a very different version - one that would achieve the precise opposite of the Bill's initial intent. The House of Lords altered it so greatly that it now protects BNP members' union membership.
