Madeleine McCann: Adopted by Angelina Jolie, And The Changeling
MADDIE WATCH - Anorak’s at-a-glance guide to press coverage of Madeleine McCann, Kate McCann and Gerry McCann
DAILY MAIL: “A mother leaves her child while she goes out - and returns to an empty house. No, not the McCann case but the true story behind a gripping new film”
Fact. Fiction. Can you spot the difference?
She was a devoted mother, hard-working, determined and tough. Then, one spring morning, Christine Collins kissed her little child goodbye (leaving him under the eye of neighbours), before returning in the evening to an empty house. Her beloved son had vanished without a trace.
A continent-wide hunt was launched and a shocked nation was kept agog by a string of leads - only for their hopes to be cruelly dashed as each clue led to a dead end.
The child was never seen again, the mother was heartbroken and the community was left divided by suspicion and mistrust.
Terrible. Just terrible. Does it work out in the end?
It could be the tragic story of Kate and Gerry McCann and their three-year-old daughter, Madeleine, who was abducted last year while on holiday in Portugal, and who remains missing to this day.
It could be, albeit with better lighting, a decent cast and a 15 certificate… Gone, Baby, Gone…
But, in fact, it is the plot of Clint Eastwood’s latest film, Changeling, which opens in Britain later this month.
But it’s all false, right? Angelina Jolie is only acting, right? Unless she adopted Madeleine?
It is all the more powerful because it is based on a horrific true story. The so-called ‘Wineville chicken coop murders’ took place on the outskirts of Los Angeles in 1928.
And while they happened 80 years before Maddie McCann disappeared, there are startling parallels between the two.
The McCanns’ grim experience in Praia de Luz - and how they were made suspects by bungling local police - was widely reported.
But Christine Collins suffered even worse treatment at the hands of the LA Police Department. As the investigation into her missing child failed to yield results, she was even locked up in a mental asylum.
It’s enough to drive you maaaaad. Maaaaad, I tell yer…
As in the McCann case, rumour followed rumour.
Each one recorded for posterity…

“Who are all these arrogant people? to say what would or would not have been achieved by a reconstruction ?”
It is not even remotely arrogant. The only way you could have different outcomes to those I stated would be if the PJ had stuffed up monumentally in the past and they made some astonishing break through discoveries - ie finding hard evidence - as a result of a reconstruction.
The only real reason you and others want a reconstruction is because you anticipate it would give you pleasure to see the tapistas buggered about. You don’t really think it will lead to any useful outcome other than your own monstrously selfish indulgence.

Yeap and apologies for being late.
Anyway where were we…… ah thats it…
PeterMac
Well at least you have the common sense on here unlike some to realise that the reconstruction had nothing to do with finding Madeleine but more about the time lines.
Only i dont share your reasons that they were merely to put them into an impossible position.
And really, what would be the point of that? To create more suspicion amongst the public after their initial leaks through the Portuguese media? What would that prove? How would that help convict the McCanns? Or are you suggesting that this whole investigation was just some crank publicity game to keep the tourists coming? Either way i doubt very much the reasons you give.
If they really wanted the McCanns back into Portugal they could have agreed to a television broadcast and then arrested them once the lies had been discovered.

Garth:
“val:
3. As the parent of a missing child, no matter how useful you thought a recon would
be, wouldn”t you agree to attend for the sake of your daughter?
——————-
Nope!
Why? Because I have the intelligence to know that it wouldn’t be for the sake of my daughter.”
For once I agree with you. It would have been to prove beyond a reasonable doubt that one, or two, or more of the group were lying. Not merely slightly mistaken, but LYING.
And arrests, probably several, would have followed.
The stuff about the reconstruction being to ‘help the search for Madeleine’ was simply to push the parents into an impossible position. They want to maintain publicly that she is, or may probably be alive, if only for the sake of the fund. If they want to maintain that, they would have to help in the reconstruction.
Their refusal to assist indicates something else. They were put in an impossible position, and their lawyers would not ever have let them return to Portugal.
November 9th, 2008 at 6:17 pm
My dear delightful June, the next time you are overcome by tedium ask the accusers to provide evidence to back up their observations, the noble Duncan certainly would have, you may be able to pass on to the Portuguese authorities these observations. I am sure the Portuguese will be delighted to accept and admit how remiss and stupid they were to miss such concrete evidence.

The Real Stig Says:

Would a reconstruction:
Find Madeleine? - No.
Establish what happened? - No.
Lead to the discovery of new evidence? - No.

Gandy, I don’t know how I’ll get over this, you feel the need to tail me across to the other side. Such loyalty. Of course it’s easier because I don’t keep changing my ID wherever I go.
I see you are out in force suddenly although minus some members who opted out.
Strangely the rest of us don’t need shft rotas, we come and post or converse when we have something to say, not just to shout and make noise like naughty little boys.

Why didn’t the PJ do a reconstruction when everyone was still in PDL? Why wait until they had all returned to the UK?
Would a reconstruction:
Find Madeleine? - No.
Establish what happened? - No.
Lead to the discovery of new evidence? - No.
Demonstrate inconsistencies in timelines? - probably.
Do you know what would be the most suspicious thing that could probably happen? To find there were no inconsistencies.
Eyewitness accounts are shockingly unreliable. Do you recall that recent plane crash in Madrid?
What did eyewitnesses - plural - say they saw?
“Witnesses said they had seen a fire in the plane’s left engine. ”
Guess what, the accident investigators found?:
“The investigators, who studied voice and flight data recorders, found no evidence of prior engine problems and concluded that the plane had caught fire only after hitting the ground. ”
People could not even accurately remember what they had seen only a few minutes before - a simple event at that. Yet ’some’ people expect 7 people to accurately recall their every movement and action and conversation over a period of hours, without errors? It is not possible.

You are correct grande fukwit, I do enjoy rattling your ramshackle cage, if you ever had a sensible thought it would die of loneliness……..bawbag……
