Madeleine McCann: Adopted by Angelina Jolie, And The Changeling
MADDIE WATCH - Anorak’s at-a-glance guide to press coverage of Madeleine McCann, Kate McCann and Gerry McCann
DAILY MAIL: “A mother leaves her child while she goes out - and returns to an empty house. No, not the McCann case but the true story behind a gripping new film”
Fact. Fiction. Can you spot the difference?
She was a devoted mother, hard-working, determined and tough. Then, one spring morning, Christine Collins kissed her little child goodbye (leaving him under the eye of neighbours), before returning in the evening to an empty house. Her beloved son had vanished without a trace.
A continent-wide hunt was launched and a shocked nation was kept agog by a string of leads - only for their hopes to be cruelly dashed as each clue led to a dead end.
The child was never seen again, the mother was heartbroken and the community was left divided by suspicion and mistrust.
Terrible. Just terrible. Does it work out in the end?
It could be the tragic story of Kate and Gerry McCann and their three-year-old daughter, Madeleine, who was abducted last year while on holiday in Portugal, and who remains missing to this day.
It could be, albeit with better lighting, a decent cast and a 15 certificate… Gone, Baby, Gone…
But, in fact, it is the plot of Clint Eastwood’s latest film, Changeling, which opens in Britain later this month.
But it’s all false, right? Angelina Jolie is only acting, right? Unless she adopted Madeleine?
It is all the more powerful because it is based on a horrific true story. The so-called ‘Wineville chicken coop murders’ took place on the outskirts of Los Angeles in 1928.
And while they happened 80 years before Maddie McCann disappeared, there are startling parallels between the two.
The McCanns’ grim experience in Praia de Luz - and how they were made suspects by bungling local police - was widely reported.
But Christine Collins suffered even worse treatment at the hands of the LA Police Department. As the investigation into her missing child failed to yield results, she was even locked up in a mental asylum.
It’s enough to drive you maaaaad. Maaaaad, I tell yer…
As in the McCann case, rumour followed rumour.
Each one recorded for posterity…

It’s been lovely chatting with you tonight, even though I still don’t know what happened to today’s story.
I hope there’s a new one tomorrow.
See you later

I often wonder why PammyWammy has not been ‘disappeared’ by the Powers That Be! …… And I don’t mean our Mods! She’s a fucking nuisance sometimes - but hey! I guess she is a service to the Clan in some way - coz even bad publicity is PUBLICITY!
Fancy her telling us where she works! I am going to ring them tomorrow and ask them to check out all their Professors of Piss and Piddle! lol
Only choking! lol
Not got addy - but funeral was sh*te! It was the most crap funeral for a gorgeous person I have ever been to.
A Priest who doesn’t believe in cremation was dragged to the pulpit and even had the audacity durin his mumblings to tell us - ‘And after this - we are nearly half way through!’ - As if he was finding it boring enough himself!!!
On the way out I told him I was sorry that we had kept him awake!
Pompous twat! He laughed and said he’d been terribly busy this week!
I said - ‘It’s only Monday. Praise the Lord we haven’t caught you on a Friday!’ And he laughed - slightly!

November 11th, 2008 at 9:43 pm
Hi Coco
Pamela
I have Joana’s blog in my favourites. What’s wrong with that? It is one of my favourites.
November 11th, 2008 at 9:42 pm
Hi Coco, good to see you back, thought of you yesterday. xx
November 11th, 2008 at 9:39 pm
Pam repeat - go and take medication and lie down it all seems a tad confusing for you
November 11th, 2008 at 9:38 pm
Doris, thanks for the warm thoughts, but I don’t think that’s necessary after popping a Synthroid.
It does have some side effects that might benefit you though. Be sure and ask nurse.
November 11th, 2008 at 9:38 pm
Coco , hope you are ok after attending the funeral xxx the lovely name of the above should have been one of ours me thinks !!!!!!! email me if you have add xxxx

Thanks to whomever pointed us to that genius Joana for today. So far I’ve learned that the overseeing ministry thinks the PJ have operated as loose cannons, violated the civil rights of Portugese citizens, abused defendants in custody, and mishandled physical evidence.
And, oh yeah, Goncalo Amaral doesn’t like the prosecutor who brought him to trial.
Huge surpises all.
(all via j-m blogspot–surely you have in “favorites.”)

Aaaaaaaaaaaggggghhhhh! DORIS! X
In and out and on and off - but LOVELY to see you!
Hi Bat E Bird!
November 11th, 2008 at 9:34 pm
Interesting. Like you I’ve followed the case from day one but from press articles, I’d never read forums at all and never posted anywhere at all till I recently plucked up the courage to post here after lurking for a couple of weeks. I now find it quite addictive and like having a dig at the trolls now and then.
November 11th, 2008 at 9:29 pm
Hi Montaillou, nice to meet you. My husband gave me the name years ago - sometime in the eighties
and I decided it would make a good forum name.
I’ve been following the Madeleine threads on Anorak since around day one but don’t tend to post much. I just post the odd link if someone’s looking for something but that’s about it.
I was too scared to post anywhere in the early days and there are still some places I avoid .
I mainly post amongst old friends on my home forum where it’s nice and cosy
November 11th, 2008 at 9:28 pm
Pamela , please take your medication and go for another lie down
November 11th, 2008 at 9:26 pm
“Hi Doris, is it technical ora whooshed and how did you find out? Gotta know xx”
It was really an on-line game and I won. I entered a message including the words,
“time,” “date,” and “metric system”; then suddenly the whole thing swirled away and thousands of tiny, gold Anorak coins rained from the top of my screen.
(I warned you, Clive; they’ll be after you now. Britain apparently has a very strict policy on not accepting scientists or spies from any country they’ve ever considered an enemy–who knew?–and they wish it enforced not only worldwide but also retroactively. Anyway, on topic–neither shaken nor stirred; the only event being interrupted by this BS is Amaral’s prosecution. Funny that. Bit of a pattern over the past few weeks. I reckon the McCann’s are a less sympathetic diversion to a countrywoman with her face beaten to a purple pulp.)
Oh, look, more coins! Hurrahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
November 11th, 2008 at 9:23 pm
Think that ex-detective should find himself a safe place.
November 11th, 2008 at 9:21 pm
If it ever reaches a screen near us Chatelaine.
Welcome Bat E. Bird, wish I’d thought of a name like that - are you a new face or just a new name? Sorry to be nosey, I haven’t been here long myself. xx
November 11th, 2008 at 9:15 pm
Cannot wait to see the documentary, Montaillou …
November 11th, 2008 at 9:14 pm
Thanks Montaillou
I supposed that would have been this afternoon’s topic and was looking forward to reading comments from the usual posters.
Have you also seen Joana’s blog today? That’s very interesting.
November 11th, 2008 at 9:09 pm
They obviously didn’t check on it often enough when they went out drinking.
November 11th, 2008 at 9:08 pm
Le détective va plus loin et affirme “qu’à des moments clé de l’enquête, grâce aux informations reçus de l’inspecteur portugais, nous avons créé des diversions dans les médias.”
The detective goes further and asserts that ‘at key moments in the enquiry, thanks to the information received from the Portuguese inspector, we created diversions in the media.’
If you were reading today’s thread earlier you will know what this means and if you visit the other side and look at the mole article you can read it in French.
Hope this is OK mods
November 11th, 2008 at 9:06 pm
Sloppy to lose a whole thread …
November 11th, 2008 at 9:01 pm
Pamela
Interesting you work in Huntsville. The CEO of the company I worked for there was
in fact a colleague of Von Braun and it was through that connection that your
government invited him to set up his company.
Saw you’ve been getting your lumps again today, wonder if your faith in the McCanns
is getting shaken. Your point that it is inconceivable that they could have perfected
a cover up at such short notice is surely being weakened as things are unravelling.
Anyway, each to their own, Madeleine is the issue.
November 11th, 2008 at 8:59 pm
Thanks doris
November 11th, 2008 at 8:57 pm
Bat E Bird ! like the name !!!!!!!!
November 11th, 2008 at 8:54 pm
I was reading the thread and when I pressed to refresh a message Error 402 came up.
I then did a search, saw the thread listed but when I hit enter, same message came up.
I guess the new Anorak site is having teething problems, unless anyone knows
differently…………….
November 11th, 2008 at 8:53 pm
I dont think it has been whoosed it could be something to do with the transition to new look site , I think they will tell us soon hopefully !
