Madeleine McCann: Adopted by Angelina Jolie, And The Changeling
MADDIE WATCH - Anorak’s at-a-glance guide to press coverage of Madeleine McCann, Kate McCann and Gerry McCann
DAILY MAIL: “A mother leaves her child while she goes out - and returns to an empty house. No, not the McCann case but the true story behind a gripping new film”
Fact. Fiction. Can you spot the difference?
She was a devoted mother, hard-working, determined and tough. Then, one spring morning, Christine Collins kissed her little child goodbye (leaving him under the eye of neighbours), before returning in the evening to an empty house. Her beloved son had vanished without a trace.
A continent-wide hunt was launched and a shocked nation was kept agog by a string of leads - only for their hopes to be cruelly dashed as each clue led to a dead end.
The child was never seen again, the mother was heartbroken and the community was left divided by suspicion and mistrust.
Terrible. Just terrible. Does it work out in the end?
It could be the tragic story of Kate and Gerry McCann and their three-year-old daughter, Madeleine, who was abducted last year while on holiday in Portugal, and who remains missing to this day.
It could be, albeit with better lighting, a decent cast and a 15 certificate… Gone, Baby, Gone…
But, in fact, it is the plot of Clint Eastwood’s latest film, Changeling, which opens in Britain later this month.
But it’s all false, right? Angelina Jolie is only acting, right? Unless she adopted Madeleine?
It is all the more powerful because it is based on a horrific true story. The so-called ‘Wineville chicken coop murders’ took place on the outskirts of Los Angeles in 1928.
And while they happened 80 years before Maddie McCann disappeared, there are startling parallels between the two.
The McCanns’ grim experience in Praia de Luz - and how they were made suspects by bungling local police - was widely reported.
But Christine Collins suffered even worse treatment at the hands of the LA Police Department. As the investigation into her missing child failed to yield results, she was even locked up in a mental asylum.
It’s enough to drive you maaaaad. Maaaaad, I tell yer…
As in the McCann case, rumour followed rumour.
Each one recorded for posterity…

Wrongly hanged people is a different matter, and it doesn’t take a trial to obtain the ‘Pardon’
I’m well aware that abuse is wrong , but really taking a person to court posthumously is pointless, all their wrongs etc die with them.
There was an awful lot of abuse way back in time, its only recently that people have even tried to stop it, you cannot get justice for all wrongdoers, where do you stop?
Even yesterday a 17 month old baby was featured inthe news as being abused and died because of it.
If you want Justice for deeds past, you may find times present people are still being abused, and getting away with it too, because the courts are filled and the Police are too busy with investigating ancient crime

The abuses did not take place only at Haut de la Garenne.
There were other ” children’s care” establishments where later abuses took
place.
The “carers” in one of those establishments were the ones chased by the TV
crew….and they were not that old.

Matt, it happened in care homes everywhere unfortunately, Jersey was one of many.
Remember Wales? Bryn Estyn? (spelling?) I had dealings with one of the victims from there when the abused became the abuser. That is the worst throw-back to all these abuses, it carries on down generations.

People want wrongly hanged people to be pardoned for the sake of the remaining families
November 12th, 2008 at 11:38 am
Even if there is no one left alive to jail for it?
Its fairly obvious the police and authorities believe them , if they have found out what they have found out.
Were they the offenders beyond doubt? I know some in their 80’s are fit, but most are wrecks, and this happened in the 1960’s and before that, and the majority of the victims are my age and older, which would make the offenders 85+ and even late 90’s or dead

I would like to see, if the Police are closing the case for the reasons they state,
ie…not that they believed that the allegations were suspect, but because they felt
that there is no point in seeking Trials due to ageing/death etc, that the Jersey
Authorities announce that they unreservedly accept that such child abuse took
place, and that it was prevalant in Haut de la Garenne, and in the other “children’s
care homes” within Jersey.
And offer compensation to the victims who were so traumatised and mistreated.
November 12th, 2008 at 11:26 am
yes to get justice and the truth on record for the victims
November 12th, 2008 at 11:26 am
I saw on a TV programme, which had interviewed some of the people who
have said that they were abused, and was following up the people who they had
named, finding two of the alleged “offenders”, a man and his wife, and chasing
the man along the road.
He looked quite running fit to me.
November 12th, 2008 at 11:26 am
And the so called carers a lot older than that.
Private prosecutions could be taken out,if you feel there is anything to be resolved?

As many as are….some of those who complained are under well 50.
November 12th, 2008 at 11:17 am
The report I read last night that there are human remains likely several centuries old, from an old and forgotten burial ground.
On the topic of the abuse, its likely the offenders are 85+ and upwards, and how many are likely to be left alive?
There isn’t much point in investigations and trials if there is no one alive to prosecute.
If you think about it, the same name(s) are probably coming up all the time, and if the police know this person is dead is there any reasonable point in pursuing it?
November 12th, 2008 at 11:04 am
remains human

And the Authorities remian complacent.
November 12th, 2008 at 10:59 am
I’m confused, did it have its own burial site?
How can a body bury itself if its dead ?
November 12th, 2008 at 10:59 am
“”The Jersey police have said that given the likely deaths due to old age of the offenders”"
On rereading June’s post, I had a wtf moment.
Sorry WTF…
But….so the police know the “offenders”, or the alleged “offenders”, why do
they say “likely deaths”, and why aren’t they continuing to follow up the
complaints about these ageing people ??
Over 100 individual complaints lodged with the Police/Authorities.
Come on Jersey….this is just not good enough, by a mile.
November 12th, 2008 at 10:55 am
yes, hopefully it will be proved that the dogs still haven’t made any false positives, well obviously except in the McC case.
wonder if Eddie and Keela could find the lost thread for us?

True re miscreants possibly having passed away in the meantime.
But how can those who have complained that they were abused when children
there ever hope to get compensation if the absence of Trials means that nil
will be proven ?
November 12th, 2008 at 10:24 am
Matt
The Jersey police have said that given the likely deaths due to old age of the offenders, there isn’t much point in persuing murder/abuse claims to the point of trial, but I do hope who ever was abused gets some recompense nevertheless

I understand that charges are being brought against two individuals re
child abuse there.
But I don’t think that they are the only ones involved.
Not according to the number of people who have registered complaints.
A dismally tragic story, which seems to be having the covers put upon it.

Matt:
Sorry I was trying to avoid answering that question since I don’t know.
I doubt the hacker theory, since why stop there? I see no evidence of it. I give you it is truly suspicious it should happen twice in the same themed thread.
I do not know, since the techies have not yet reported back to Ye Editor but they are on the case. They are also working in the background so the accidental push of a button may be the hands up answer.
They are also on the perhaps far more important case of the imminent introduction of the new look Anorak. I am reliably informed I shall asked to try and break it today.
I… and this is a rare one: I can only apologise for the earlier temporary loss of our usual service which has now been resumed….I think.

morning cool
Hopefully thats what this conference is for
November 12th, 2008 at 10:09 am
Morning!
Matt and BF, I was always worried that the big focus on children being killed at the Jesey Home would dilute the fact that appalling abuse went on there.
And it has.
Now everyone is heaving a big sigh of relief at the ‘lack’ of murder and forgetting everything else.
Phew. No remains. ……….. Never mind the damaged bodies and minds that left there year in year out.
‘Institutionalised abuse’ was part and parcel of children’s home life for so many years and physical and sexual abuse was either accepted or swept under the carpet with the abusers mostly got away with it. Sadly Jersey is no exception.
Case Closed.
