Karen Matthews Killed Nora Batty
FERGUS Shanahan, the Sun’s deputy editor, laments the passing of Kathy Staff, an actress famed for her hospital corners on Crossroads and her half-mast stockings as Last of the Summer Wine’s Nora Batty.
Shanahan suffers from acute faction, the inability to differentiate between reality and made-for-telly fiction.
“Nora represented a generation of women with attitudes long gone. Working hard and keeping the home clean in the face of real poverty…Fiercely protective of her family and kids while instilling discipline and manners.”
You could not make her up. And then the clincher:
“Did anyone ever see ghastly Karen Matthews busily scrubbing her front step?”
You could make her up…
“Exactly.”
Medic! That nice doctor from Casualty should do it…

Could karen Matthews be responsible for any other recent deaths? For example, that bloke who’s plane crashed somewhere in California, did Karen Matthews cause that? Maybe it was Karen Matthews who shot that prossie in Phil Spector’s house. Just suppose that Steve Wright who allegedly murdered (I never believed it, after all a Radio 3 DJ murdering women???!) didn’t and that maybe Karen Matthews is responsible for it.
Why stop there? Why not just continue to demonise this woman until all the world’s ills are dumped firmly on her shoulders, then at least none of us have to take any responsibility for anything we do in life. Now won’t that be a wonderful world?

Karen Matthews is the result of her own upbringing and environment and the governments inability to get to grips with welfare. Its already been accepted that her IQ is borderline.
Punishing her is one thing, demonising her is another……
Even if she did get down on her knees and scrub her step to a mirror-like finish nothing would change for her family and all the others caught in the same miserable uneducated trap.
The Sun really should be ashamed of the way its sensationalising this tragic story. but it isn’t of course, not while the more gullible trog around the country at their own expense to release blue balloons (that publicise the Sun) and hold up banners (that publicise the Sun)
