Cheryl, The Violence Policy Center, in which you got your information from, is an anti-gun organization; they are biased when it comes to guns and gun control. The statistics they talk about are slanted. Try looking up actual statisics sometime. Besides that blaming guns instead of criminals is futile. Criminals are the ones that need to be prosecuted not law-abiding gun owners and gun manufactuers.

Just like most miss informed left leaning liberals you Cheryl either do not understand the political process or you refuse to tell the truth. 1. Being that Bush let the Assault weapons ban laps/expire. President Bust had no choice in the matter sense the bill had the prevision for a 10 year term and would expire at that end. 2. In order for the Assault weapon ban to be signed back into law, the House, Senate, and Congress must draft a new bill and pass it by a majority vote before it can go to the President for him to sign. President Bush said he would sign a new Assault Weapons ban if they passed it.
The House, Senate, and Congress neither attempted to pass a new assault weapons ban nor wanted to. The votes were not there to pass a new assault weapons ban. 3. During the 10 years of the Assault weapons ban was in effect, it was found that the Assault weapons ban had no effect on crime. Of the law enforcement agencies that tracked Assault Weapons in crime only 1% of the weapons used in any crime were Assault Weapons. Only 2% of the confiscated weapons during that same time frame were Assault Weapons.
4. There are very few incidents of Assault Weapons being used in the named type of shooting you mentioned. How ever there has been somewhat more use with Assault Weapons by people who are not suppose to have any weapons at all by law now then there were a few years ago. Most people using any weapon to commit crime are already forbidden from even having weapons for the most part.
Sense the ill begotten Assault Weapons ban took effect just how many school/collage shooting were there? I only know of one and in that shooting only one person was killed. How many Mall shootings was an Assault Weapon used? I know of only one and 6 people died I believe. There have been a few law enforcement agents kill or wounded with the misnomer Assault Weapons but far more are killed with their own handguns then anything else.

Cheryl, apparently you’re misinformed about the assault weapons ban. You see the guns that Bill Clinton and his cronies banned were not actual assault rifles, they were semi-auotmatic military style rifles. Actual assault rifles are fully automatic sub machine guns which have been banned since 1934 (during prohibition). A semi-automatic is a firearm that fires once with every single pull of the trigger meaning you have to squeeze the trigger everytime you want to fire it. A fully automatic machine gun fires multiple rounds when you squeeze and hold the trigger back and won’t stop firing until you let off the trigger. The Clinton administration and the liberal news media used the “assault wepons” label to fool the American public into thinking they were banning machine guns that were already banned and still are. As for what you said about these “assault weapons” that were in the Clinton gun ban not being used for hunting purposes you are dead wrong on that as well. Many people use the SKS, the Mini-14, the AR-15, etc. to hunt deer, wild hogs, Elk, etc. Most of these “assault rifles” are the same caliber as most hunting rifles and function in the same manner as most semi-automatic hunting rifles. I myself own an SKS that I hunt deer and wild hogs with, as a matter of fact I hunted wild hogs with it just yesterday (no I didn’t get anything). My cousin has two SKSs that he hunts with. And another thing I find your statement about those of us in Texas being “sickos” offensive just because we own guns and believe in the U.S. Constitution. No I don’t like Obama but I don’t particularly like Bush either. That doesn’t make me or any other Texans a sicko.

Odds are that once President-elect Obama becomes President Obama the ban against assault weapons bill will be signed once again and assault weapons back off the streets! Why gun owners are rushing in mass to buy them up now.
When George Bush was running for President the gun dealers had already ordered the then illegal assault weapons back in stock knowing he’d sell out the safety of all Americans by letting the ban against assault weapons bill lapse to get his needed millions and votes from the NRA. Nothing like the sickos from Texas to hang Obama’s picture in a gun store!
Assault weapons are not used for hunting four legged game or two legged fowl. However, they have been the gun of choice by those who go into schools, colleges, shopping centers, meetings, etc. to massacre innocent people.
