Madeleine McCann: The Maddy Porn Mag On Display
MADDIE WATCH - Anorak’s at-a-glance guide to press coverage of Madeleine McCann, Kate McCann and Gerry McCann
But is it porn? Mourn Porn? Yesterday we had the “paedo!”. Now we have the “porn!” Two words can keep this story going, and they are not “Maddie found”.
HACKNEY GAZETTE: “MADDIE STUNT FURY”
A vile stunt in which a group of Hackney artists made pornographic artwork using images of Madeleine McCann has sparked outrage.
Vile. Outraged! Did you see it? Well, in case you didn’t go to a minor art exhibition in a easy-to-miss part of London and be outraged, know this:
Decima Gallery, based in Smeed Road, said they pasted photographs of the missing four-year-old on to pornographic magazines in an attempt to satirise her treatment at the hands of the media.
And to extend the appeal to the perverted community. Right? Did you see Our Maddie’s bed? Her teddy? No, not her nightie, she was in pink pyjamas.
Meg Hiller, the MP for Hackney South and Shoreditch, branded the stunt “sick and appalling.”
And vile?
She said: “Hackney has a reputation as an artistic place with artists who do interesting and sometimes provocative work, but this sort of thing doesn’t do the reputation of Hackney any good.”
Because Hackney has a reputation for honesty, justice, truth and honour.
Decima, which opened a gallery in Smeed Road, Hackney Wick, last year, has carved out a reputation for staging provocative exhibitions and events.
The latest event was hosted in Riverside Close, Lower Clapton, on Sunday afternoon.
In case you were wondering where to go and be sickened.
A spokeswoman for the NSPCC told the Gazette: “This is appalling and completely insensitive to the family of Madeleine McCann.
“Even allowing for artistic freedom there is no excuse for encouraging people to indulge in something as distasteful as this.”
People need little encouragment to look at porn.
Madeleine McCann is missing, and we continue to stare and watch the parents.

Hi it’s Alex from Decima, the organisation at the centre of this “outrage”. Would just like to pick up on a point made early on in this thread…
Karen said “I think it would be valid if it achieved what it set out to achieve - made a point about how the media used MM to get sales and how that voyeurism is a type of porn. But I don’t see how MM’s picture on porn would say that - without us being told that’s what it meant.”
In fact we did achieve what we set out to achieve, in raising a debate about the media’s handling of this story, and the mercenary nature of the media in general. Although roughly half of the public’s response has been to demonise us, threaten us etc, the other half has been to debate the subject a bit more sensibly, as on this site. Decima would like to make clear that the “images” reported actually have never been seen by anyone, and were never displayed in the gallery. There is no evidence in fact that they exist (I will stop short of confirming that one way or the other) and no papers have ever asked for evidence nor sought to interview anyone who had seen the “exhibition” or taken part in creating the artwork. Therefore this outrage is wholly a media-created one, designed to sell papers, which beautifully proves our point. Thankfully all of the reports did put across our side, albeit briefly, and we have had the opportunity to explain something about what we were doing on our website. Therefore, as none of the images have been seen, and the concept has not been reported without an explanation, the second part of Karen’s message is irrelevant.

Breaking news!
In response to the criticism the gallery has announced its next exhibition will feature images of copulating baboons, chimpanzees, and apes, over which photographic images of the faces of Barack ‘Hussein’ Obama, and his ghetto bitch Michelle will be posted.

Phillip - thanks for writing in. Although what Gaza and Dafur has to do with Madeleine McCann is not all that clear. It is, though, what I call Mourn Porn - getting off on grief. See that child’s teddy on the rubble…

PHILLIP S. HILL Said:
“Frankly, the way in which Madeline has been objectified by the press to cynically increase the circulation of their vile publications disgusts me a lot more than my work does”
… getting warmer - with regard to an appropriate attitude to your own ‘work’.

Phillip Hill…… thank you for explaining your standpoint; even though I intensely dislike the media coverage of the tragedy, I still disagree with using Madeleine mcCanns image at all.
The ‘missing Madeleine’ story is extraordinary in the way it has motivated and divided opinion but yes, she is of course one among many.
January 23rd, 2009 at 4:47 pm
she’d be better off there now….

June, I think you over-estimate the mentality of the men Karen M and her peers socialise with!!
she will go on to have more children and, because of the wording of the Children’s Act she may well get to keep them and then end up on ‘Jeremy Kyle’ in a few years time.
Lets just hope the incognito KM doesn’t go and live in Haringey!

I should make the point that none of you have actually seen my work, and that each of the three magazines, (which i made three months ago, not as according to meida reports, last weekend) were inscribed with slogans such as ‘no worse than the news of the world’ and ‘children should be seen and not hurt’. And in response to ‘cool and calm’ I did indeed use the Mccanns images in my work as well. I feel deep sympathy for the parents of any sick, ill or missing child. I also feel a deep sense of empathy for any family who loses a child and for the other thousands of forgotten children who are victims of sexual and emotional abuse in this country, and the millions of others around the world. For example, the child soldiers of sierra leone and the drc. The children huddled together under pieces of plastic sheeting in the camps for the displaced of Darfur. Or those of Gaza, blown into pieces whilst the world stands still and does nothing.
And of course, I feel everlasting sympathy for the children who undoubtedly stitch together most of the clothes you are wearing.
Frankly, the way in which Madeline has been objectified by the press to cynically increase the circulation of their vile publications disgusts me a lot more than my work does and I have nothing but praise for the bravery of David C West for bringing my work to public attention. Like it or not, It has created a debate about what is moral and proper behaviour for the tabloids to engage in when sensationalising the tragedy of a missing child. I sincerely hope she is found and that the editors of these papers donate some of their salaries to her fund, as i have done and will do with the proceeds of my work when it is exhibited next month in London. I would like to thank Decima for their contnued support of work that is thought provoking and sometimes difficult and my forgiveness to those of you who have made death threats against us. Let us not forget the children of the world who will never receive the media attention that poor Madeline has, and that sometimes you have to be obscene to be believed.

In Hackney
January 23rd, 2009 at 2:21 pm
She’s had her meal tickets taken away, she’ll find it next to impossible to get work, and any bloke would have to have beer goggles…thus reducing her chances of more meal tickets

Only half that sentence will be served inside. Half on license outside. She will get time off for the time she spent on remand. She will be walking the streets with a new identity in less than two years. No much of a deterrent really is it?
January 23rd, 2009 at 1:38 pm
Should bring her back to earth with a bang, and stop others
