AFTER losing a truly epic - no, really it was - Aussie Open singles final to Rafael Nadal, Roger Federer could hardly control his emotions. ‘God, this is killing me,’ the Swiss star said when he stepped up to speak to the crowd after five sets of better-than-superlative (yeah, and that’s not even possible) tennis. He then quietly sobbed into his chest like a little girl, as you can see below:
Poor Rog, still stuck on a mere 13 grand slam titles.
And if you don’t tear up when floppy haired Nadal puts a comforting arm around Federer, then you have a harder heart than Anorak - it’s surely the tennis equivalent of Brokeback Mountain.

We love Roger no matter what. We will cry with him whenever he cries and we will laugh with him whenever he laughs. We love Roger Federer.

Whoever has written this has no reason to mock Federer for crying. He is human after all and tennis means everything to him. Now, all of a sudden when that something that means the world to him is being taken away he’s just crying. I don’t understand why people have to make such a big issue out of it. I think people just have a problem with him. He’s probably too good.

It’s all very well being measured about this, Karen, but for those of us who do not warm to Nadal on the grounds that he doesn’t look like a bonobo there’s not a lot of choice out there…

It was very cute. Federer used to be such an arrogant creep when he won - he’ll be much human and interesting now he’s losing a bit.

John Lloyd said that Rog needed a coach…… JOHN Lloyd…oh my

It’s hard for the non-spanish players, they do not have names like Feliciano, Fernando, Rafael etc., with the latter actually being a leftie as well! With these unfair advantages it is impossible for ‘Roj’ blame himself for his loss and the crying. Infact, post-match crying should be regulation as it adds variety & dimension to the men’s game.
What astounds me though, is that John Lloyd said something sensible on the commentary ( about Roj needing a coach)…..!

I was very touched by Roger Federer’s display of emotion. I don’t think there is anything wrong with a man crying. It shows he is human and has feelings. I am sure he was very disappointed at not winning because he has had such a difficult year since he became ill and has never really bounced back from that viral illness he had. I think both men showed a lot of class following the championship. That is why it is such a pleasure to watch them play tennis. Not only are they superb players but they are true gentlemen and have a lot of class.
