She meets a guy who sounds like Alvin the Chipmunk and they have 25 nervous breakdowns as they obsess about the big me becoming the big we. Series 2: 25 Things About We.

It isn’t just children or teens needing education about the dangers on the internet or of the real dangers of FaceBook or MySpace.
The below appeared in a UK newspaper today!

It’ll happen sooner than we think too. One second you’re riding the bleeding edge of technology, the next you’re part of the latest ‘blinking twelve’ generation.

“we can’t experience the digital world in all its consensual augmentation of reality combined with instantaneous connectivity to the worldmind” - thanks Magnetite, absolutely love that one!!!

perverts will use any means they can find so education is a must.
When I was a youngster the swimming pool was the paedos favourite. We were all vaguely warned and the majority were aware though of course it still happened. That didn’t mean swimming pools should have been closed.
I WASN’T warned to beware of the friendly old man next door (with a wife and daughter) but alarm bells rang and I steered clear from then on.
Education, education, education will minimise the risks of PC pervs (educating parents as well as children) but IMO too many see the PC as a harmless piece of hardware like the TV. It isn’t.

Eventually our grandchildren wil be laughing at us because we can’t experience the digital world in all it’s consensual augmentation of reality combined with instantaneous connectivity to the worldmind - because we don’t want to have yet another operation to get the right interface ports installed.

Moderation. I’m in and out like Yehudi Menuhin’s elbow. Well, not now obviously - but previously. When he was alive and playing. Anyway, I’m odd, moderator - but never dangerous or libellous.
Moderator - We have a blip, which is slow to correct

There’s also the fact that a lot of the crowd who jumped on the PC/Mac/Internet bandwagon with inexpensive hardware and cheap ISP deals simply do not want to learn how to protect themselves as it is ‘too complex’ or ‘annoying’. Making sure your kids’ computers are safe is a lot harder than making sure they have their seatbelts on in the back seat.

It’s difficult to overestimate just how naive people can be, and with many teenagers you have the added difficulty of their desire to prove that they are grown up, usually by completely ignoring anything in the way of sensible advice about the improbability of meeting the love of your life by writing on someone’s wall. I haven’t the faintest idea how that could be fixed…

These websites are not the real danger, but the pervs looking for naïve [young] vulnerable posters. Most parents don’t know/realise the dangers and are naïve too.
I think schools/teachers should teach/tell the children as well as the parents about it, about the “do’s” and “don’t do’s” [hope I make myself clear].
But there’s another category of parents, the one C&C described, the selfish ones imo. They seem to see the PC as a replacement for a babysitter. Just like some parents use the tv as a babysitter. As long as it keeps the kids quiet and not demanding attention it’s fine by them. And I really don’t know how to change that/them.

…. as you mention celebrity blogging is a way of getting good publicity…but again…I say celebrity dogging is similar…but better . If you don’t believe me ask a real celebrity like Britney of the lovely Lily…..you can make more headlines by spreading yourself in the back seat of a car & flashing your fanny in the headlights & flashlights and you don’t even have to be able to write.
I can unerstand if you do not agree with me C&C, but dogging is a lot like blogging…you should try it & see, it might give you something to write home about & its a lot more healthy. Ask your Doctor if you don’t believe me.

It was you who insinuated that I was a local perv and slightly sexist with the Mondeo man remark…but i take no offence.
Seriously as I said before Dogging is a lot healthier tha dogging…most of the real writers that I know are flabby, pasty & short sighted from sitting in front of a screen all day. They need to get out more and experience reality rather than pretending they are a celebrity in cyberspace. Now if ou are as open minded as you claim to be should be…all I am suggesting is that a bit of backseat action can be far more healthy & might even help sell a few books too. You say blogging….I say dogging….so what you going to do…ban me for my honesty just cos it is’nt your cup of tea. Come on C&C ….get to grips with reality.
P.S. Please stop winking at me…people might get the wrong impression of Percy.
February 8th, 2009 at 3:10 pm
enough now Percy, no need to get personal… (or Percyonal) there is a line and you’re about to cross it! I’d sooner you didn’t.
February 8th, 2009 at 2:46 pm
P.S. I will bring my camera to film the action so you can put it up on MyFace….. I would hate to deprive you of any free publicity, C&C.
February 8th, 2009 at 2:35 pm
..I did’nt say it was my Mondeo…in fact it belongs to the lady…..and as far as performing in front of a wider audience, using modern tools….well treally!… in MyBook… that just means that while you are as local as me you are just a lot more spread out & pervy.
Now if you are still interested in some healthy dogging, C&C, come on my Facebook and I’ll tell you where I’m going to be.
February 8th, 2009 at 1:57 pm
Ah ha Percy. Mondeo man is alive and kicking!
Sadly, the modern age demands that writers/actors/singers etc use the modern tools of websites, blogs, Facebook and MySpace pages in order to reach a wider audience. Very time-consuming but I do it nontheless.
Dogging I leave to the local pervs! NIMBY thank you very much!
February 8th, 2009 at 1:09 pm
I always said that blogging is very similar to dogging in that it entertains people by letting them perform in public with a pervy audience watching on…..the only difference that I can see…. is that dogging involves a bit more reality, privacy & can be quite healthy & sexy….
See you in the car park…I’m in the Blue Ford Mondeo

Here I disagree with you Cheryl…. nothing wrong at all with Facebook and MySpace, I use both (I’m a big grown-up!) the fault lies with the parents who can’t be bothered to monitor their children’s online activities.
I’m a firm believer in PC’s being kept downstairs, no secret passwords and kids being warned constantly about the dangers of online activity.
The ones that are at risk are the youngsters whose parents see the PC as a babysitter!

FaceBook and My Space should be banned by State and Federal laws. They are a predator’s heaven! On the Dr. Phil Show last week two mothers were on with their daughters. One young child, at age 12, was raped by a ‘boy’ she met on one of those sites, who turned out to be an adult age 22, when she went to meet her new friend in the park. The other teenager age 16 was using the sites to meet adult males and having sex with them.
Young women have been murdered once being viewed on those sites by sickos on the prowl for a victim. A friend of mine managed to get access to her 15 year old son’s FaceBook. On it he had posted pictures with him standing beside all the drugs he had for sale!
