The Health Curate’s Chocolate Egg
RESEARCH just in confirms that limiting egg consumption has little effect on cholesterol levels.
Boffins (egg heads, surely?) at the University of Surrey says people could eat as many eggs as they wanted without damaging their health.
Says researcher Professor Bruce Griffin:
“The ingrained misconception linking egg consumption to high blood cholesterol and heart disease must be corrected.
“The amount of saturated fat in our diet exerts an effect on blood cholesterol that is several times greater than the relatively small amounts of dietary cholesterol.
“The UK public do not need to be limiting the number of eggs they eat - indeed they can be encouraged to include them in a healthy diet as they are one of nature’s most nutritionally dense foods.”
Dense? Most eggs are hollow, although some do contain plastic toy.
Still, who’s complaining. If the brainiacs say that eggs are good for us, then eggs we shall eat.
Says Victoria Taylor, a senior BHF dietician:
“If you need to reduce your cholesterol level it is more important that you cut down on the amount of saturated fat in your diet from foods like fatty meat, full fat dairy products and cakes, biscuits and pastries.”
You can’t go wring with eggs, although they’re only available for a limited period either side of Easter. Best to stock up…

I’m not keen either Sam, but my husband would give an arm and a leg…..
Chenier,
do teach your toaster to make toast, but some slivers of smoked salmon or crispy bacon are delicious with them too. Proper real muffins opened and toasted are good too.
Sadly am allergic to oranges BUT Bucks Fizz would….

June
I discovered the duck eggs a while back, and you are absolutely spot on with the scrambled bit. Now all I have to do is learn how to make toast and my rankings in the domestic goddess stakes will soar…

well I’m just so happy that Cadbury’s Creme Eggs are officially good for me. I rushed down to Tescos and bought a box of 12 to last me the week. Yummy.
Apparently two for breakfast can help you lose weight….

It’s good to see that Eggs have been given the green light again. We can expect more of these previously dangerous foods given government approval as Gordon stuggles to come to terms with the upcoming Baby Boomer pensions ambush. Pork scratching anyone?
