Monty Panesar is appealing

by | 10th, March 2009

England spinner Monty Panesar has been fined 25 per cent of his match fee for excessive appealing during the fifth test against the West Indies. Stupid boy.

“On more than one occasion during the day he [Panesar] began celebrating a prospective dismissal rather than appealing and waiting for the decision to be made, thereby not showing due respect for the role of the umpire,” match referee Alan Hurst said in a statement released by the ICC.

Amjad Khan, England’s rookie fast bowler, was also found guilty of excessive appealing but he escaped punishment because he is playing in his first Test. Lucky boy.

Perhaps Monty is addicted to appealing in every part of his life? Is this, for example, how he flags down a taxi?

Speaking of excessive appeals, even serial offender Monty can’t match his team-mate Kevin Pietersen. KP is an occasional slow bowler, but that doesn’t mean he is afraid to ask the umpire politely, “How was that?”.
