Truckers Linked To Serial Killings
IN the US, the FBI is forming a database that links long-haul truckers and serial killings.
Anorak readers will recall this comment by BBC presenter Jeremy Clarkson on truckers:
“What matters to lorry drivers? Murdering prostitutes? Fuel economy? It really is a hard job and I’m not just saying that to gain favour with truck drivers. There’s so much to do. “You’ve got to change gear, change gear, change gear, check mirror… murder a prostitute. Change gear, change gear, murder.”
Road Haulage Association chief executive Roger King complained to the BBC:
“It is a slanderous slur on lorry drivers and the character of the industry.”
The BBC responded:
“This particular reference was used to comically exaggerate and make ridiculous an unfair urban myth about the world of lorry driving, and was not intended to cause offence.”
Truckers could get revenge:
Truckers are getting their revenge on Jeremy Clarkson for his remarks about them murdering prostitutes, by running him over in a new computer game.
In the US:
The FBI suspects that serial killers working as long-haul truckers are responsible for the slayings of hundreds of prostitutes, hitchhikers and stranded motorists whose bodies have been dumped near highways over the last three decades…
A computer database maintained by the FBI has grown to include information on more than 500 female crime victims, most of whom were killed and their bodies discarded at truck stops, motels and other locations along popular trucking routes crisscrossing the U.S.
The database also has information on scores of truckers who’ve been charged with killings or rapes committed near highways or who are suspects in such crimes, officials said. Authorities said they do not have statistics on whether driving trucks ranks high on the list of occupations of known serial killers.
Plumbers?
Mike Jennings, the Illinois State Police special agent who worked with the FBI to identify Harris’ remains, said he plans to retire in a couple of years and that the case of the fourth woman will weigh heavily on his mind if it remains unsolved.
“My gut feeling,” Jeninngs said, “is that it’s a trucker.”

I blame the Tachograph. Since it’s introduction Truckers have too many enforced rest stops. Before the Tachograph, Truckers whould just drive and drive until they fell asleep at the wheel, cross the central reservation and kill some innocent driver coming the other way in an horrific head on pile up. Now they are forced to park up for hours before they can carry on. It’s no wonder they get bored.

Clarkson is an arse who doesn’t think before opening his big gob…. in one fell swoop he managed to insult the vast majority of truckers and trivialise the murders of prostitutes, whether by a trucker or some other sicko….
