Which is a judgement of course(saying: this “bad”). This statement is repeated in many, many articles, comments and blogposts. And can easily sound like moral accusation, and implicitly states, that “we can just decide” not to judge a person by their appearance.Is that true? Can we? My special take on “judgemtal language” I have been studying “judgemental language” systematically since 2004, And I experienced it to be well worth exploring. (If you want to learn some basic and profound things about “judgements” and “violent language”, here is a basic piece about it by Marshall Rosenberg, and it shows, how deeply rooted the language of judgement is in our global culture - and how deep the implications are not only in show business but in wars, in everything, where strong human needs are involved) I think, somehow, people who address this topic from a “clowns perspective” like “satire” e.g. can somehow mirror the “essential craziness” of judgemental language and also the inherent hypocrisy of criticizing it, because it is really in all of us. Diary, once she started singing she had that crowd on its feet applauding (not to mention Amanda and Piers) all most throughout the whole song.

She hasn’t been over here but she already has nationwide coverage on TV stations telling her story and showing the film of her singing! She’ll take this country by storm and guaranteed sell out if she appears over here to sing.

I remember when Paul Potts won and came over here. He was on every TV station and talk shows.

The UK can certainly stand proud of their two just ordinary citizens who have brought such beauty into this world with their singing.

Cheryl - the audience for that programme sniggers and sneers at most of the acts who go on there - Susan Boyle was not an exception…
we are not talking highbrow TV here….!
to be fair to Simon Cowell, out of the 3 programmes he is involved with - Britain’s Got Talent, X Factor and Americal Idol - he has had to sit through a whole shedload of crap over the years - and how often do people like Susan Boyle come along….? the audience, however, are basically just a howling mob at the best of times….

C&C, was just getting ready to put my ‘last jab’ at ( I promise, Anorak) the UK over Susan Boyle. EVERY morning talk show over here this morning carried Nationwide is talking about her and showing her singing, an interview also with her by a TV station in Scotland, and they are giving her rave reviews and one announcer was in tears as they showed her singing. Also, every show is talking about the way people over there “sniggered”, “sneered” at her, including Simon, when she walked on stage. There have been over 5 million hits on U-Tube to watch her sing.

I think your assessment is probably right.
When Cheryl Cole was voted most beautiful woman in the world then I almost lost the will to live in that world!
That sadly is what it is all about and the likes of Susan Boyle, (a good kind woman with a sense of humour and a rather nice talent), are mocked and jeered.
Sad really.

Good Morning, C&C! It is rather disappointing, isn’t it, that Anorak has somehow let itself be drawn into the crowd that ridicules and jeers at those not as perfect as one thinks they should be. Read she is not ‘the norm’. What is the ‘norm’ over there? All T&A, 36-24-36, empty headed dummy, beautiful face from a plastic surgeon’s knife, morals of an alley cat? NBC carried her story on the news and note was made of how the people over there acted when she first walked on the stage.
